For the first time since 1982, premier-class motorcycles returned to Finland, testing on the brand new KymiRing in preparation for next year’s Finnish MotoGP. Located 85 miles north of Helsinki, the all-new 2.85-mile circuit lays nine rights and nine lefts over undulating terrain with 20 meters of up and down. The 2020 MotoGP schedule has yet to be finalized, but the Finnish MotoGP will be on it. It’s kind of a big deal.

Actually it’s been 33 years; the original burst onto the big screen in 1986. Captain Maverick, who should be an admiral by now, looks remarkably well-preserved and is still at it – shooting down bad guys, questioning authority and even riding without a helmet after all these years.

In total, these 600 motorcycles (300 apiece) sold out in days after a social media pre-order launch. Impressive.

If the first MotoE race wasn’t much more exciting than yesterday’s German MotoGP, at least it was mercifully short, at just seven laps. Almost seven laps. Seen live, you might miss the sound of those mighty ICE engines. Seen on TV, you really can barely hear the bikes above the yammering of the commentators anyway – but now and then the eerie electric whine of the Energicas comes through in the video, and it’s strangely not half bad.

Wendy Crockett of Rapid City, South Dakota has become the first ever woman to win the Iron Butt Rally, an 11-day 11,000+ mile event spanning North America. Crockett and her faithful 2005 Yamaha FJR1300 pulled off the mind-blowing – and butt-numbing – feat of traversing 12,998.9 miles with a score of 154,086 during the 11-day event. Points are accumulated via checkpoints for various parameters and tracking verifications with bonus points available for additional verification such as photo evidence.

The 2020 Husqvarna FS450 remains mostly unchanged from the previous model year with 2020 models arriving in September 2019.
