2024 Zero Motorcycle Updates Confirmed
Upgraded frame, batteries and chargers for S, DS and DSR
Last month, we reported that Zero was revamping its lineup, updating the S, DS, and DSR models with the newer FST platform used by its higher performance models like the SR range and DSR/X adventure model. Our initial report was based on a document Zero submitted to the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration showing updated gross vehicle weight ratings for the models that were using the older SDS platform.
Motorcycle.com can now confirm our initial conclusions with new data from a vehicle identification number decoder submitted by Zero for the 2024 model year. With this new information, we can confirm the S, DS, and DSR will be updated to the FST platform, with all three getting new model codes.
Comparing the VIN decoder for the 2023 lineup versus 2024, it’s clear that the SDS platform is being dropped, leaving just the XMX, FST Street, and FST Adventure platforms. The three models that currently use the SDS platform are the Zero S, DS, and DSR. All three of these receive new model codes for 2024. The Zero S is changing from the code “MM” to “FS”, joining the SR, SR/F, and SR/S in having a model code starting with “F”. The 2023 DS and DSR will switch from their “DJ” and “DK” codes to “ZS” and “ZB”, joining the DSR/X in having a model code starting with a “Z”.
Based on the updated model codes, we surmise the S will join the SR, SR/S, and SR/F on the FST Street platform, while the DS, DSR, and DSR/X will use FST Adventure platform. The
FX and FXE will remain with their current XMX platform.
Looking at the Models column, we can see the 2024 Zero S and DS will also be getting a battery upgrade, going from the Z-Force 7.2 kWh battery to the 14.4 kWh capacity previously offered on more premium models. The DSR will get the larger ZF15.6 kW battery, which will help differentiate it from the DS model. The plus signs by the battery capacities for the 2024 Zero SR, S, and DSR suggest there will be an option to upgrade as well.
The VIN decoder also indicates Zero is streamlining its motor options. The S, DS and DSR currently split two very closely specced motors, labeled “Z5” and “Z6”, but for 2024, Zero essentially replaced them with a single motor labeled “ZX”.
Elsewhere in the VIN decoder, we learn that Zero has upgraded the charging system, with the S, DS, and DSR going from a 1.3 kW integrated charger with an optional upgrade to 6 kW, to a 3.0 kW integrated charger upgradeable to 12.0 kW.
Beyond the mechanical updates, we suspect there will be some styling changes coming for the 2024 S, DS, and DSR models. Unfortunately, we’ll have to wait for the official announcement to see what they will look like.

Are they going to make them shorter so we vertically challenged riders can touch the ground ( 30" inseam) I noticed at the bike show I couldn't reach the floor on any of your models.
Think you ought really to preface articles about electric so called bikes with a boredom warning!
Personally I'd rather get married again than ride one . The best part of the article on the zero was an add for a Cfmoto real bike! ☺️
