To kick off National Motorcycle Safety Awareness Month (May), Allstate Insurance Company will continue its efforts to donate standardized warning signs for motorcycle safety with its “Once is Never Enough” (ONE) program with the first installation of 2013. ONE is an awareness campaign that encourages people to look twice for motorcycles at intersections and aims to help reduce the number of motorcycle crashes at intersections by proposing installations of permanent motorcycle warning signs in 20 U.S. cities this year. Additionally, a new Allstate Motorcycle Facebook mapping application was created in response to the numerous requests from the rider community to help bring awareness to other hazardous road conditions. Italian electric motorcycle manufacturer CRP unveiled a near-production prototype of its new Energica sportbike. Due to appear at next week’s EICMA show in Milan, the Energica will enter production in 2014 for the U.S. and European markets.

The first electric motorcycle to be entirely developed and produced in Italy, the Energica is the product of CRP’s experience in TTXGP racing. Racer Alessandro Branetti won the 2010 TTXGP European Championship on the Energica’s predecessor, the eCRP 1.2 and finished second in the World Championship that same year.

According to CRP, the Energica is equipped with an 11.7 kWh battery, a significant jump from the 7.4 kWh battery equipped on the eCRP 1.4, the latest iteration of the eCRP. By comparison, the battery on the Brammo Empulse has a capacity of 10.2 kWh while the Zero S has a maximum capacity of 9.0 kWh. Continue Reading »

Torrance, CA: American Honda announces that effective October 1, 2012, Senior Vice President of the Motorcycle Division Ray Blank will retire. Robert Gurga has been promoted to the position of Vice President, Motorcycle Division.

“After nearly 30 years with the Motorcycle Division, I have made the decision to step down,” said Blank. “American Honda has been wonderful to me over all these years, and I am very proud of what the people at American Honda have all achieved together through both the good and bad times. I never thought I would have the good fortune to be involved with so many great motorcycles and industry friends during my time here. I want to thank everyone I’ve worked with for memories I never dreamed possible.”

As part of its annual summer sales meeting and its presence at the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally, Polaris Industries Inc., Victory Motorcycles, and the Company’s dealers donated $154,125 to the Wounded Warrior Project (WWP). The donation was part of Polaris’ continuing relationship with the WWP, an organization that raises awareness and aids injured servicemen and women. Earlier this year, Polaris also gave away three special, blacked-out RANGER RZRXP4 900 side-by-side vehicles to WWP veterans.

Electric motorcycles like Brammo’s forthcoming Empulse model would qualify for a tax credit.

PICKERINGTON, Ohio — Buyers of on-road electric motorcycles would continue to be eligible for up to a $2,500 tax credit under a bill approved by the U.S. Senate Finance Committee, the American Motorcyclist Association reports.

On Aug. 2, the panel approved bipartisan legislation extending dozens of tax breaks, including language offered by U.S. Sen. Ron Wyden (D-Ore.) to preserve the tax credit for buying electric motorcycles designed for the street.
