Friday Forum Foraging: A Mint, 19-Mile Nicky Hayden Ducati 848
Only 1 of 150, and probably the one with the lowest miles, too.
If you're like me, then any mention of a Nicky Hayden edition motorcycle automatically triggers thoughts of the Honda RC51 of the early 2000s. The bike that Nicky took to an AMA Superbike championship (back when the competition was extremely stiff), one could say it was also the bike that springboarded him to a career on the international stage.
However, there's another Nicky Hayden edition motorcycle that many of us forget about. It's the Nicky Hayden Ducati 848. Commemorating Nicky's stint as a Ducati MotoGP rider, the Borgo Panigale factory produced 150 of these special motorcycles just for the US market. They were characterized by their red, white, and blue livery, the star adorning each side, and Nicky's signature number 69 in front. Mechanically though, the bike was the same as the standard Ducati 848.
This specific example comes to us from Bring-A-Trailer and it's special for a couple of reasons. First of all, is the fact that Hayden's signature is found on the fuel tank. But perhaps what makes this bike more appealing is the total mileage on the odometer – 19 miles.

19-Mile 2010 Ducati 848 Nicky Hayden Special Edition
This 2010 Ducati 848 is one of 150 Nicky Hayden Special Edition examples produced for the US market in celebration of American racer, MotoGP world champion, and Ducati factory rider Nicky Hayden. The bike wears a red, white, and blue livery with Nicky Hayden-inspired graphics and is powered by a liquid-cooled 849cc Testastretta Evoluzione L-twin paired with a six-speed transmission. Equipment includes a rider seat, a passenger pillion, fully-faired bodywork, adjustable Showa suspension, a cast aluminum single-sided swingarm, Marchesini Y-spoke alloy wheels, triple disc brakes with Brembo calipers, and a hydraulically controlled clutch as well as a desmodromic valvetrain, aluminum timing belt tensioners, magnesium cylinder head covers, Marelli electronic fuel injection, and a two-into-one-into-two exhaust system. The bike was acquired by the selling dealer in 2023, and its digital odometer indicates 19 miles. This 848 is now offered in North Carolina with a clean Vermont title.
The fully-faired bodywork features an American-themed red, white, and blue livery with Nicky Hayden-inspired graphics and checkerboard accents over a red-finished steel trellis frame. Equipment includes a clear windscreen, fairing-mounted mirrors with integrated front turn signals, a black solo seat, a matching passenger pillion with a grab strap, and LED taillights as well as a side stand.
In addition to Nicky Hayden-inspired graphics including the race number “69” on the fairing, the 4.1-gallon fuel tank wears a Nicky Hayden signature.
Marchesini 17″ Y-spoke alloy wheels are finished in black and mounted with Pirelli Dragon Supercorsa Pro tires. Adjustable Showa suspension consists of a 43mm inverted fork along with a piggyback monoshock mounted to the single-sided cast aluminum swingarm. Braking is provided by radially mounted four-piston Brembo calipers over dual 320mm rotors up front as well as a two-piston caliper paired with a single 245mm rotor at the rear.
Alloy clip-on handlebars secured below the upper triple clamp front an LED-illuminated dashboard, which houses a digital speedometer and a sweeping bar-style 13k-rpm tachometer along with displays for time, voltage, service alerts, lap timer data, and coolant and ambient temperatures. The digital odometer indicates 19 miles.
The liquid-cooled 849cc Testastretta Evoluzione DOHC L-twin features an oil cooler, a digital CD ignition, magnesium cylinder head covers, aluminum camshaft belt tensioners, four desmodromic valves per cylinder, Marelli electronic fuel injection with elliptical throttle bodies, and a two-into-one-into-two exhaust system with under-tail mufflers. Factory-rated output was 134 horsepower and 71 lb-ft of torque.
Power is sent to the rear wheel through a hydraulically controlled wet multi-plate clutch, a six-speed transmission, and a drive chain. The pictured rear-axle stand is not included in the sale.
