New BMW M 1000 XR to Be Revealed June 6
S 1000 XR the latest to get an M performance version
While we're all awaiting official word of a new R 1300 GS, BMW surprised us with a teaser for an entirely different model: a new M 1000 XR.
The teaser is pretty straightforward: a single graphic of a bike resembling the S 1000 XR with a stylized version of BMW's M logo positioned in the side of the fuel tank. The only conclusion is BMW is teasing a new M 1000 XR.
Beyond the graphic, BMW hasn't provided any specifics, just confirming the not-so-mysterious model will be revealed June 6 at 5 pm CEST (that's 11 am EST and 8 am PST).

The M 1000 XR would be the third motorcycle to get an official variant branded with BMW's high performance M subsidiary, following the M 1000 RR and M 1000 R. Based on these other M models, we can expect the same claimed 205 hp and 83 lb-ft. figures from the M 1000 XR's Inline-Four, plus optional carbon wheels, top-flight electronics, and aerodynamic updates.
We can likewise expect a high price tag. Pricing for the M 1000 R starts at $21,345, a $7,400 premium over the base price for the S 1000 R. The M 1000 RR is even more outrageous, with its $32,995 base price nearly double the S 1000 RR's starting price of $17,895. We'll have more details once the BMW officially announces the M 1000 XR next week.
[UPDATE: It looks like the M 1000 XR - or at least a pre-production model - has been spotted at the Isle of Man TT. Peter Hickman, who on Monday became the first person to be clocked going 200 mph through the Sully Speed Trap, was spotted testing the M 1000 XR.]

Hope they give it an aesthetic refresh at the same time as the latest XR is horrid

I don't know what to make of a 200+ HP adventure touring motorcycle. I have ridden the XR in various road conditions and I own an S1kR, and I have never thought to myself, "Boy, I sure could use more power." Then again, I was happy with a Motorola flip phone before the iPhone came out.
Henry Ford said that if he asked his customers what they wanted they would have said faster horses. 205 HP? Bring it!!! Perhaps, BMW knows something we don't. Then again BMW has invested heavily in the R18 flop.
