Yamaha announced two new concept models based on its leaning three-wheeled Tricity scooter. The concepts follow what Yamaha calls its “Refined Dynamism” philosophy that brought us the futuristic-looking 01GEN revealed at Intermot and the 02GEN wheelchair concept. Yamaha continues its Refined Dynamism naming convention with the sportbike-styled 03GEN-f and the scrambler-influenced 03GEN-x.

The 03GEN-f made its public debut at this week’s Bangkok International Motor Show in Thailand. It sports a low and wide front face with twin-headlights inspired by Yamaha’s R-series sportbikes. Below the headlight is a spoiler that flows into Yamaha’s Leaning Multi-Wheel mechanism.

Other design touches include an all-digital display, a sharply-rising tail and Yamaha racing blue highlights.

Not yet ready for public display is the more stripped-down 03GEN-x. Featuring wire spoke wheels and a rising exhaust, the 03GEN-x draws inspiration from classic scrambler designs. A leather seat and copper highlights lend a retro vibe, which contrasts with more futuristic design elements such as the X-shaped light, colorful digital display and the thick tube rear frame which incorporates both the taillight and rear turn signals.

The two 03GEN concepts, along with the 01GEN, do not look like they will be entering production any time soon. Yamaha has said it intends to offer more leaning multi-wheelers to follow the Tricity, but they will likely follow more traditional Yamaha design elements.
