Yamaha Motor Europe is celebrating the 30th anniversary of the VMAX with a special edition Carbon version. The 2015 VMAX Carbon will only be offered in Europe, along side the base model which will be available in a Matt Grey color option that will be offered at a reduced price. North Americans will make due with the Black Cherry colored 2015 VMAX which has been available in dealerships under the Star brand since November.

The idea of the VMAX Carbon is a bit odd, seeing as how Ducati did something similar for the Diavel Carbon. The original V-Max was released in 1985 with the modern all-caps VMAX introduced in 2008, well before the Diavel, so it’s a strange for Yamaha mark the brand’s heritage by following Ducati’s example.

As its name implies, the VMAX Carbon is clad in carbon fiber bodywork. The tank cover, front and rear fenders and side covers are all made from the lightweight material. Yamaha also swapped out the regular VMAX’s stacked dual exhaust for a single Akrapovic slip-on muffler.
