The Hollister city council unanimously voted Monday night to approve the return of the famous motorcycle rally based on an infamous “riot.” The resurrected rally will be held on July 5 & 6 of this year.

Last held from 1997 to 2008, the Hollister rally was cancelled in 2009 for financial reasons. According to a 2009 press release, the 2005 event brought an estimated 100,000 people to downtown Hollister during the event weekend. However, after the Hollister Independence Rally Committee (HIRC), a non-profit organization responsible for all costs, including City expenses associated with the rally, failed to reimburse the city for its law enforcement, fire public works, and other expenses for both 2005 and 2006, leaving the City with a general fund deficit of more than $250,000, the event was cancelled

This year’s rally will be managed by World Wide Dynamics, Inc., the company with stakes in other biker events such as Laconia and Sturgis.

No other information was immediately available, but look for more as it’s released.
