BMW sold 104,286 motorcycles in 2011, the most units the German manufacturer has sold in a single year in its entire 90-year history. 2011 sales surpassed the previous record of 102,467 units sold in 2007.

2011 also saw a 6.4% increase in BMW’s motorcycle sales over the 98,047 units sold in 2010. Sales were up throughout 2011 with BMW reporting growth in each month including a 12.4% increase in December.BMW is also claiming a 12% increase in market share for motorcycles in the 500cc and over segment, and doubling its market share over the past four years.

Things aren’t so rosy with BMW’s Husqvarna subsidiary. Husqvarna sales were down 23% in 2010 at 9,286 units compared to the 12,066 units sold in 2010. BMW hopes Husqvarna will rebound in 2012 with the introduction of new streetbikes such as the Husqvarna Nuda 900R and Nuda 900 and the production version of the Strada concept model unveiled at the Paris Moto Show.
