Accessory manufacturer Küryakyn is issuing a recall on its Transformer passenger floorboards for the 2001-2011 Honda Gold Wing.

According to documents filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the mounts of the Küryakyn Transformer floorboards may crack and break free from the mounting bolts. The floorboards may unexpectedly fall off the motorcycle, potentially leading to a crash or injury.

Küryakyn received three warranty calls Nov. 14-18 from people either stepping on or off stationary Gold Wings. A fourth report was received Nov. 28. Küryakyn says it had received a small number of reports of cracking mounts dating back to mid-2007 but they were isolated and infrequent, but with four reports coming in the span of two weeks, Küryakyn opened an investigation.

A new mount has been designed with thicker, stronger materials and reinforced with gusset ribs inside the floorboard casting. The new components began third-party testing Dec. 15. Küryakyn will begin notifying owners and providing replacement mount kits free of charge beginning in January. The recall affects about 21,600 units.
