The 2011 AMA Supercross Championship featured some of the most competitive racing we’ve seen in some time, with five riders in contention for the title for most of the season, culminating with Ryan Villopoto winning his first premiere class championship.

GoPro, the official sports camera for AMA Supercross, has released a video of highlights from the 2011 season filmed entirely with its HD Hero camera. Several riders in the 450 class and the 250 class wore GoPro HD Hero cameras throughout the season, with some of the footage featured on television broadcasts on CBS and Speed.

“Throughout the season GoPro’s HD cameras have captured the up close and personal excitement that both riders and fans witness out on the track. The incredible videos that have been produced by the GoPro team have brilliantly captured the intensity of supercross,” says Tim Murray, vice president of sales for AMA Supercross promoter Feld Motor Sports. “We have received great support and incredible footage from GoPro this season and we look forward to continuing the relationship into the 2012 season.”

Half Moon Bay, Calif. (May 16, 2011) – GoPro, the world’s leading HD activity camera company and the official sports camera of Monster Energy AMA Supercross, an FIM World Championship, for the 2011 and 2012 seasons, wraps up the greatest season ever and releases finale video that captures some of the spectacular highlights from the races.

During the season, multiple Monster Energy Supercross riders in each class sported GoPro’s HD HERO cameras to capture race footage from the rider’s perspective. GoPro covered all the action-packed races and has produced exclusive edits with this killer footage, bringing the racer’s perspective to the viewer and showing them Supercross from an entirely new angle. Footage from the GoPro HD HERO cameras was also used in the professional broadcasts of the events that aired on CBS and Speed. Check out the exclusive edits of race highlights, raw lapping race footage, and track course preview videos featured on GoPro’s motocross video channel at GoPro.com/videos/moto and the GoPro MX YouTube channel.

“Throughout the season GoPro’s HD cameras have captured the up close and personal excitement that both riders and fans witness out on the track. The incredible videos that have been produced by the GoPro team have brilliantly captured the intensity of supercross,” said Tim Murray, vice president of sales, Feld Motor Sports. “We have received great support and incredible footage from GoPro this season and we look forward to continuing the relationship into the 2012 season.”

The company also sends out a huge congratulation to Ryan Sipes on his victory in the Supercross Lites, Dave Coombs Sr. East/West Shootout main event! Sipes, who had a phenomenal season, is part of the DNA Shred Stix/Star Racing Yamaha team that GoPro sponsors. Sipes and other team members wore GoPro HD HERO cameras on their helmets throughout the season to not only capture the action but also as way to review and study their races. “I’m stoked to be a part of the GoPro team. The camera has been an awesome way for me to show the fans what it’s like to be racing at the front of the pack and be able to watch my footage after the race. The camera is so small and light, I can’t even feel it on my helmet,” said Sipes.

“GoPro was stoked to be the Official Sports Camera of the 2011 Monster Energy Supercross season,” said Justin Wilkenfeld, GoPro Director of Sports Marketing. “At each race the intense energy could be felt throughout the arena as the riders demonstrated a masterful balance of technique and fearlessness. We’ve been proud to help capture this intensity of this action-packed series by incorporating GoPro HD HEROs and producing unique and exhilarating videos.”

GoPro’s HD HERO cameras are used by more consumers, athletes and professional production crews around the world than any other camera in its class. The HD HERO line of cameras is both the top selling wearable, mountable sports camera in consumer markets as well as the top selling camera of it’s kind to Hollywood for film and TV productions where an “easy to mount anywhere” professional HD camera is needed. GoPro’s success is best illustrated by the number of TV shows airing on Discovery Channel, National Geographic, CNN, CBS, BBC, Versus, FuelTV, SPEED, and more that feature footage captured with HD HERO cameras. Starting at $179, the HD HERO camera can be found at your favorite motorcycle accessory dealer, Cycle Gear, Yamaha dealer, or online at www.gopro.com
