The American Motorcyclist Association announced a list of the top 15 motorcycling roads in America, as selected by its members.

The list, which will be featured in the April issue of American Motorcyclist magazine, was distilled from over 100 nominations.

The top route is the Beartooth Highway, pictured above. A section of U.S. Highway 212 between Redlodge and Cooke City in Montana, the Beartooth Highway traces the Montana-Wyoming border and has an elevation of 10,947 feet.

The beartooth is fantastic, just for going over 10K feet twice it’s remarkable. Many of the other choices seem to be based on some sort of user votes rather than an objective measurement. Alot of these roads are great, but for the traffic and enforcement on them. The tail of the dragon is a perfect example, the possibility of a great (though super short) road, but the liklihood of police or a line of 60 cruisers riding in formation is too high to make my list (though there are lot’s of great less used roads nearby). A few classics did make it like CA 36, and route 33 in VA. And I apparently need to ride that OH highway, that one is new to me.

  • Been on Red Mountain Pass in Colorado. Really curvy road, but the scenic view is beautiful.
