2024 Honda Transalp Review – First Ride

Adventure bikes weren’t really a thing in 1989, at least not in the United States. Even BMW’s venerable GS was nothing more than a misunderstood, oversized dual-purpose machine with ties to the Paris-Dakar rally, which itself was only a little more than a decade old at the time. At the back of the dealership where I worked in 1991, parked next to the tire rack, languished a 1989 Honda XL600V Transalp. Along with other two-year-only (’89 and ’90) model offerings from Honda, including the GB500 and CB-1, the Transalp was nothing more than a curiosity.

Friday Forum Foraging: (Mostly) Clean 1982 Honda CX500 Turbo

Personally, I'd rather see this 1982 Honda CX500 Turbo get restored and put back on the road (it's so close), but I'm not blind to the fact there are people out there who covet the CX500 to turn into cafe racers or some other custom. Located in Washington DC, this seller came to the realization that many of us encounter when it comes to restorations (myself included): sometimes life just gets in the way. Now their loss is your gain. And for $3500, you could come away with a mechanically sound cult classic. It's got some scratches and dings, and could use a proper install of the fairing, but that all seems like minor stuff for an otherwise ready-to-ride motorcycle.

Friday Forum Foraging: Save This Rebel 450!

Apparently a cult classic among enthusiasts (I had no idea), you can help save this 1987 Honda Rebel 450 from the unfathomable fate of... its current owner. Found on our sister site, the Honda Rebel Forum, This person is tempted to chop the bike up and do irreversible harm to it in the name of customization, but he's relying on you to save this otherwise mostly-in-tact Rebel 450 and keep it in its current state. The modest $2000 he's asking would then go towards buying something else. Presumably something he or she won't feel so bad chopping up.

2024 Honda Shadow Phantom Review – First Ride

I just rode two motorcycles with fork gaiters within a one-week period. Nooo, they weren’t vintage 2-stroke MXers. Both were 2024 models, street bikes, cruisers at that. The first was Kawasaki’s new Eliminator, and the second was Honda’s reworked (I refuse to use “updated” and “fork gaiters” in the same paragraph) Shadow Phantom.

Church Of MO: 2010 Honda NT700V Review

It's ugly and it's weird, but holy moly is it dependable and extremely practical. We're talking of course of the Honda NT700V. Back in 2010, Honda decided to bring this oddball commuter motorcycle to the US after sales of the bike in Europe were very strong. Unsurprisingly, it didn't see the same fate here. It goes without saying that use cases in Europe are very different than they are here, but we're sure for those people who bought one with the intent of getting to and from the office – with maybe the occasional weekend tour thrown in – the bike was a fantastic companion. Here, former MO staffer, and all-around great guy Alfonse Palaima tells us what the NT700V is like to ride.

US-Spec 2024 Honda Transalp Will Be Down on Power

Back in May, Motorcycle.com broke the news that the Honda XL750 Transalp was coming to America for 2024, arriving a year after it’s been available in Europe. While we’re glad to see the middleweight adventure bike will finally arrive stateside, we can unfortunately confirm the U.S.-spec model will produce less power than its European counterpart.

2023 Honda SCL500 Review – First Ride

Just when you thought Honda couldn’t possibly add something new and different to its middle-range moto lineup, it surprises us with a reiteration of a previous cult classic, the CL350, best known for paving the way for the Baja 1000 back in the 70’s. This modern version of the peppy lightweight scrambler has all the goodies of Honda’s current offerings, with all the style of the paired down desert racers of the past.
