Almost lost in the drama about Marc Marquez during Sunday’s MotoGP race in Argentina was the fate of his teammate, Dani Pedrosa, who crashed out on the opening lap. The Repsol Honda rider high-sided after running through a wet part of the track after being passed by Tech3 Yamaha’s Johann Zarco.

Pedrosa was examined by doctors and was diagnosed with a fracture in his right wrist. Pedrosa underwent surgery in Barcelona and, if things go well, is expected to begin rehabilitation this weekend. His status for the April 20-22 Grand Prix of the Americas in Austin, Texas, will depend on how well he progresses.

After the race, Repsol Honda released a statement from Pedrosa saying: “There’s not much to say about the race. I think we did a great job during the weekend, and I was also riding very well. My race ended before I finished the first lap. Race Direction needs to look after every rider’s safety.” Though he was referring to his own incident with Zarco, that final sentence is particularly interesting, given the scrutiny now being placed on his teammate Marquez.

Dani Pedrosa undergoes operation to his right wrist in Barcelona

Repsol Honda Team rider Dani Pedrosa underwent surgery to his right wrist this afternoon at the Hospital Universitari Dexeus in Barcelona, Spain, to treat the injury suffered in a crash during Sunday’s race at the Argentina Grand Prix.

A 3D CT scan confirmed that Dani had suffered an intra-articular fracture of the right distal radius.

The fracture reduction and internal fixation with a titanium screw were carried out by Dr. Xavier Mir and his team from the Catalan Institute of Traumatology and Sports Medicine (ICATME) at the Dexeus Hospital.

The result of the operation was satisfactory, and Dani will undergo an evaluation of his progress in 48 hours. If the results are positive, he will be able to begin his rehabilitation on Saturday.

His participation in the Austin GP will be decided consequently.

The Repsol Honda Team will release information on Pedrosa’s progress as it becomes available.
