With all the commotion going on at Intermot 2016, Yamaha cleverly decided to use this opportunity to release its second teaser video for what’s presumed to be the highly anticipated next generation YZF-R6.
Nothing new is revealed in the second video, which was shot at the former Miller Motorsports Park (now Utah Motorsports Campus), except for a quick silhouette shot of the bike. From what we can tell, the new model (which we’re all but certain is the new R6) heavily borrows design cues from its bigger brother, the YZF-R1. This is most evident in the tail section with huge cutouts and the drooping nose section at the front. Enlarge the image below to get a better view.
We first reported on the new R6 in mid-September, when Yamaha released its first video teasing the new bike. At the end of the video it stated we would see more today, October 4. The date coincides with media day at Intermot, so we thought Yamaha would unveil the new model at one of the biggest motorcycle shows in the industry.
As it turns out, Yamaha’s keeping us waiting until October 13 at 10am EST. That date coincides with another motorcycle show, AIMExpo in Orlando, Florida, at which point we presume Yamaha will stop with the teaser videos and reveal the bike in its entirety. Our own Tom Roderick will be at AIMExpo this year, where he’ll report back on all the latest announcements and unveilings.
Until then, catch the Yamaha video below.
