U.S. team places third in 2016 FIM Motocross of Nations
PICKERINGTON, Ohio — The U.S. team persevered through a tough weekend, but was able to secure a spot on the podium, taking third at the Fédération Internationale de Motocylisme Motocross of Nations in Maggiora, Italy, on Sept. 25.

France captured the win, followed by The Netherlands.Yamalube/Star Racing Yamaha’s Cooper Webb raced in the MX1 class, taking fourth in Race 1 and 10th and Race 3.

Alex Martin, Webb’s teammate at Yamalube/Star Racing Yamaha, competed in the MX2 class and took ninth in both Race 1 and Race 2.

Rockstar Energy Racing Husqvarna’s Jason Anderson raced in the Open class and captured the Race 2 win. Misfortune struck when, immediately after Anderson crossed the finish line, the bike of a lapped rider landed on him. He was taken to the hospital and had to sit out Race 3.

AMA Director of Supercross and Pro Racing Relations Kevin Crowther congratulated the team members for their arduous effort.

“Cooper, Alex and Jason fought hard to finish in third,” Crowther said. “With all the adversity that the team faced at the Motocross of Nations this year, we could not be more proud that they made it onto the podium.”

Crowther thanked Alpinestars for its support and hospitality at the event, saying the company contributed significantly to the team’s success.

Roger DeCoster, AMA Motorcycle Hall of Fame Legend and manager of the Red Bull/KTM AMA Motocross and Supercross Team, also managed the Motocross of Nations team.

Webb’s first time representing the United States at the competition was in 2015. He is the defending AMA Supercross 250SX West champion and also won the title in 2015. He competes in the Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship and will be in the 450SX class in the 2017 AMA Supercross.

Anderson was a rookie at this year’s Motocross of Nations. He is the 2014 AMA Supercross 250SX West Champion. He races the 450SX class in AMA Supercross and the AMA Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship.

For Martin, it was the first time representing the United States. He rode for Team Puerto Rico in the past. He races in the 250SX class in AMA Supercross and the AMA Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship.

Competition in the FIM Motocross of Nations includes riders in the MX1 class, which features 450cc bikes; the MX2 class, which includes 250cc motorcycles; and the Open class.
