Australian sidecar racer Dwight Beare is dead following a crash at the first Sure Sidecar TT race of this year’s Isle of Man TT week. He was 27.

Beare and his passenger, Benjamin Binns, crashed near Rhencullen, between the 15th and 16th mile markers of the Mountain Course during the race. The race was immediately red flagged.

Born in Melbourne, Australia, but a resident of the Isle of Man, Beare made his Isle of Man TT debut in 2014 with his father Noel Beare as his passenger, finishing 12th in the second Sidecar race. The father and son duo returned to compete again last year. For this year’s TT, Dwight Beare teamed with Binns, who was airlifted to hospital following the crash. He is listed as stable with a fractured ankle.
