AMA Hall of Famer Ray Price – 1937-2015

Drag racer and AMA Hall of Famer Ray Price has passed away on Dec. 16 at the age of 78. He is survived by his wife Jean, daughter Robin and grandchildren Rebecca and Jordan Richardson.

The 1993 inductee is recognized as the father of drag racing’s “Funnybike” and inventor of the wheelie bar and a developer of the two-speed automatic drag racing transmission. Price first began racing in 1966 on a Harley-Davidson Sportster and didn’t stop until 2003, accumulating numerous championships and racing records along the way. Price continued to run his own team, winning the National Hot Rod Association Harley-Davidson Top Fuel Drag Racing Championship in 2014 and 2015.

Price also owned a Harley-Davidson dealership in Raleigh, one of the largest dealerships in the southeastern U.S.
