Ducati Teases "Low Speed Excitement"
Ducati released a video called “This is X” teasing another new model to be unveiled at EICMA. The video doesn’t really provide many details about the new model except for some cryptic words from a disembodied narrator.
Here’s what the voice says:
The intersection of worlds
The road along which you discover you’re part of something.
The multiplication of potential
Maximal strength with minimal effort
Facing forward, forgetting what is behind
Different from what you knew
Low speed excitement.
The key words from the video are “low speed excitement”, hinting at a new low-displacement, possibly more beginner-friendly model which would fill a gap in Ducati’s lineup. At the moment, Ducati’s smallest-displacement engine is the 803cc V-Twin used in the Scrambler line, but several of the company’s smaller-displacement models are getting new larger engines for 2016.

We already know from documents released by the California Air Resources Board that Ducati’s “middleweight” 899 Panigale will be replaced by a 959 Panigale while the 821cc Hyperstrada line is also getting a displacement boost to 937cc. That new Hyperstrada engine will likely also make its way to the Monster family in the next few years, just as it received a 821cc version last year. A new, smaller model would step right in.
Ducati is best known for its V-Twins but people often forget about the Singles Ducati produced from 1950 to 1974. The original Ducati Scrambler was one such model, seeing iterations ranging from 250 to 450. A new Ducati Single would be intriguing, but the video’s statement of “facing forward, forgetting what is behind” sort of dampers that theory.
The words “maximal strength with minimal effort” also suggest an engine not tuned to do its best work at high revs like other Ducati models. We’ve already seen spy photos of an updated belt-driven Diavel, so perhaps the teaser refers to a more cruiser-ish Diavel.
Another intriguing theory is the long-rumored Ducati scooter which could offer “low speed excitement”. Ducati promised two of its nine models debuting at EICMA would venture into all new segments for the company and a scooter would fit the bill.
All these guesses are well and good but we’ll have to wait until Ducati’s EICMA presentation on Nov. 16 to solve for “X”.
