Although you may not be aware of Bates Footwear, founded in 1855, the manufacturer is one of the largest suppliers of footwear to the U.S. federal government and Department of Defense. After years of providing men and women in uniform with everything from dress shoes to tactical boots, Bates knows a thing or two about tough footwear. So, it makes sense for the company to delve into the motorcycle boot market, and it has with the Adrenaline High Performance Riding Boot.

The the goal of creating a motorcycle boot that offers crash protection and all-day comfort both on and off the bike was Bates’ goal. Directed towards the adventure touring market and constructed of waterproof full grain leather, the Adrenaline boot features molded thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) for both protection and comfort. TPU reinforces the molded heel, shift pad, and the boot’s outer edge. Inside, PORON XRD high impact foam gives additional protection to the ankle. The outsole chassis consists of ethylene-vinyl acetate (EVA) and slip-resistant rubber with an external shank providing flexibility and stability. In a nice touch for motorcyclists, the patented molle strap lace restraint allows riders to tuck the laces out of the way of moving parts.

Available in black for $200, the Bates Footwear Adrenaline boot can be purchased online. Visit www.BatesFootwear.com for more information, or follow the company’s Facebook, Instagram, or Twitter feeds.

Like most of the best happenings in his life, Evans stumbled into his motojournalism career. While on his way to a planned life in academia, he applied for a job at a motorcycle magazine, thinking he’d get the opportunity to write some freelance articles. Instead, he was offered a full-time job in which he discovered he could actually get paid to ride other people’s motorcycles – and he’s never looked back. Over the 25 years he’s been in the motorcycle industry, Evans has written two books, 101 Sportbike Performance Projects and How to Modify Your Metric Cruiser, and has ridden just about every production motorcycle manufactured. Evans has a deep love of motorcycles and believes they are a force for good in the world.
