Brothers Ben and Tom Birchall won their second TT race, taking the first of two Sidecar races of the 2015 Isle of Man TT. The Birchalls, winners in 2013, set a new sidecar record time of 58:39.776, setting a new average speed mark of 115.770 mph.

The opening lap saw the exits of two class favorites, the team of Tim Reeves and Patrick Farrance and 17-time winner Dave Molyneux and his partner Ben Binns. Reeves and Farrance retired after about 13 miles while in fifth place. Molyneux and Binns took the lead midway through the first lap but had to pull out with a problem at about the 35-mile mark.

That left Team Birchall with a first lap average speed of 115.285 mph, the only first-lap time over 115 mph. The team of John Holden and Dan Sayle was second, averaging 114.781 mph while Conrad Harrison and Mike Aylott was third at 113.197 mph.

The three lead teams maintained their order in Lap Two, with the Birchall brothers posting a lap speed of 116.060 mph, the second-fastest Sidecar TT lap ever recorded. They followed up with a 115.967 mph speed on their third and final lap. The Birchall’s finished in a record time of 58:39.776, besting the previous best time of 58.59.28 set by Molyneux and Sayle in 2009.

Holden and Sayle finished second while Harrison and Aylott occupied the final podium spot.
