Yamaha MT-25 Revealed in Indonesia

Yamaha Motor Indonesia revealed the new MT-25, a naked version of the company’s YZF-R25 sportbike offered in Asian markets. There’s no word yet on whether the MT-25 will be brought over to North America, but if it does, it’ll likely see a displacement boost to 321cc matching the YZF-R3, and go by the name FZ-03.

The MT-25, meanwhile, uses the same 249cc Twin powering the R25, claiming 35.5 hp at 12,000 rpm and 16.7 lb-ft. at 10,000 rpm. The brakes are the same as the R25 and R3 with a single 298mm disc up front with a two-piston caliper while a 220mm rear disc is paired with a single-piston caliper. The suspension system is likewise similar with a 41mm telescopic fork and single monoshock. While the sportbikes use clip-ons, the MT-25 has a more upright handlebar for more upright riding posture.

Visually, the MT-25 resemble the MT-09 and MT-07 (a.k.a. the FZ-09 and FZ-07 in North America), especially the twin-cylinder 07. The single halogen headlight is topped by a small wind deflector. The engine is shown in all its naked glory but for the chin fairing.

Recall last year, when Yamaha revealed the YZF-R25, also in Indonesia, in the spring but the R3 wasn’t revealed until the autumn. We expect Yamaha will follow the same pattern come out with an MT-03/FZ-03 in the fall.
