Ducati announced a new company sales record with 45,100 motorcycles sold in 2014. The year marked the fifth consecutive annual increase, with 2% more motorcycles sold than in 2013.

The newly-revamped Monster line played a big role in Ducati’s sales record. The addition of the Monster 1200 and Monster 821 models helped increase the family’s sales by 31% to 16,409 units. Ducati also sold 9,788 motorcycles from its sportbike lineup, including 5,806 units of the 899 Panigale (so by our calculations, the 899 outsold the 1199 Panigale last year).

The U.S. continues to be Ducati’s largest market, with Americans scooping up 8,804 units last year. Sales in Europe, however, were less impressive, with Ducati’s sales decreasing by 3% to 19,743 motorcycles, thanks mainly to tough times in Ducati’s home market where Italian sales dropping by 14% to 4,284 motorcycles.

More positive news came out of Asia where Ducati set a new company record for the continent with 5,787 motorcycles sold (up 11% from 2013). Thailand saw a 22% increase to 3,057 units sold.

Ducati isn’t the only European brand reporting record sales in 2014. BMW set its fourth-consecutive sales record with more than 120,000 motorcycles and scooters sold ( breaking its previous record in just 11 months) while KTM is also expected to announce a new sales record after selling 115,731 in just three quarters. Triumph also announced sales of 54,432 motorcycles during its 2014 fiscal year, the most since the company’s relaunch in 1983.
