One of the most controversial subjects out there, helmets, never fails to get a reaction from riders everywhere. Which helmet is the best? Which safety standard is safest? Ask 10 different people and you’ll get 10 different answers. Here to add further controversy into the helmet debate, the folks at www.nosquidding.com weighed 12 different helmets from six different manufacturers. The results may surprise you. See the video below.

The helmets include selections from manufacturers like Arai, Shoei, HJC, Icon, Bell, and Nexx, and cover the most popular safety standards found in the US: SNELL, DOT and ECE. This matters because shell construction varies in order to meet the safety requirements. Also, take into account the helmets shown vary in their sizes, which can affect their overall weight. Still, the lightest of the helmets, which is a size medium, is significantly lighter than the rest.

What do you think of the results below? Does this change your perception of helmets and safety standards? Tell us in the comments below.
