Tommy Aquino Dies in Motocross Accident

California racer Tommy Aquino has died after a crash involving another rider at Piru Ranch MX in Piru, Calif. According to the Ventura County Star, the 21-year-old professional racer died in a head-on collision shortly before 12:30 pm on Feb. 2. An unidentified second rider was seriously injured and air-lifted to hospital.

Aquino raced five seasons in AMA Pro Racing, most of it in the Daytona Sportbike class with the Graves Yamaha team. His best season came in 2011 when he finished third in the Daytona Sportbike championship, with a win at New Jersey Motorsports Park.

In 2013, Aquino crossed the Atlantic to race in British Superbikes where he finished seventh in the National Superstock Championship for Team WD-40 Kawasaki. Aquino also raced a few rounds in Spain’s CEV championship in 2011 and 2012.
