If you’ve been following our coverage of the 2014 Dakar Rally and felt like you’d like to experience the wide open spaces, the varied and challenging terrain, but want to relax and bench race with your buddies with a cold drink and a catered meal after the day’s riding is done, then the Seatle-based adventure riding company AltRider has an event for you. The start date for AltRider’s 2014 Taste of Dakar is rapidly approaching.

Beginning on Friday February 28th at the Wine Ridge RV Resort in Pahrump, NV, participants will be treated to three days of adventure over routes created by Jimmy Lewis, 2000 third place Dakar finisher and off-road riding instructor at Jimmy Lewis Off-Road Riding School. According to Jeremy LeBreton, co-founder and president of AltRider, “We put on this ride to address the three excuses we always hear from riders; I don’t know how to ride, where to ride and don’t have anyone to ride with. Now there are no more excuses!”

Riders of all skill levels can enjoy this event.

On the weekend of February 28-March 2, riders will cavort through sand dunes, cracked riverbeds, and rocky trails amongst the arid brush while enjoying the company of like-minded folks. Don’t think that this event is just for expert adventure riders. The days’ rides will have instruction available – even an optional one day class with Jimmy Lewis Off-Road Riding School on the March 2nd – and GPS-led routes based on each rider’s ability. LeBreton says this ride is awesome for riders because “it is an event for all skill levels; we get true beginners and advanced riders alike having a great time. Riding knowledge gained from time and experience is shared among the group.”

Five catered meals (and after ride adult beverages) will be provided by AltRider and will have a southwestern flair. Participants will also be eligible for giveaways from sponsors like ICON, Akrapovic, RoxSpeedFX and Freedom Cycle. All riders need to bring are their enthusiasm, camping gear, motorcycle gear and their plated off-road motorcycle.
