Indian Motorcycle Weekends at Washington IMS
Indian Motorcycle will be in Washington, DC starting this Friday at 3 p.m. as part of the Progressive International Motorcycle Show ( IMS). Riders who attend the IMS at the Washington Convention Center will be treated to a variety of events throughout the weekend – many of which honor the US service personnel stationed in the DC area.
As part of Indian’s efforts to support and honor our military, admission to Stars and Stripes Saturday Sponsored by Indian Motorcycle will be free to all military personnel with a valid military ID. Members of the US Armed Forces simply go to the VIP service center with their credentials to receive their pass. They should also stop by the Indian display area to pick up a special Indian Motorcycle gift.
Free entry on Saturday isn’t the only way that Indian is supporting our troops, the company’s Honoring Heroes program offers incentives to military service members on a select line of Indian Motorcycle models.
All attendees of the Washington IMS will be able to see the full line of 2014 Indian Chief models and the 2014 Indian Chieftain. The past era of Indian Motorcycle will be represented by a selection of fully restored pre–1953 Indians. Look for the 1935 Indian Chief that fans of the History Channel’s American Pickers series may recognize. Of course, the crowd favorite ‘Spirit of Munro’ Streamliner will be on display, and if your timing is right, you might even get to hear the engine in the homage to Burt Munro’s 1962 record at the Bonneville Salt Flats started and run for a few minutes.
A special 2014 Indian Chief Classic, dubbed the Big Chief Custom and created by the Indian Motorcycle Industrial Design team led by Greg Brew, will be on display. Indian wants to inspire customers to be creative with their own Indian’s, and the Big Chief Custom’s modifications, accessories and paint scheme should get those creative juices flowing. Other dressed up Indians will be sporting many of the factory accessory options.
For those who don’t believe things until they see them, a cutaway of the Thunder Stroke 111 engine will show that a stylistic reflection of the past can be thoroughly high-tech at the same time.
Finally, what event would be complete without an opportunity for Indian Motorcycle’s fans to buy some branded gear for both on and off the road?

Like most of the best happenings in his life, Evans stumbled into his motojournalism career.
