Valentino Rossi‘s half-brother Luca Marini took part in the official test at Spain’s Valencia circuit, riding the Aspar Team‘s KTM-powered Kalex Moto3 racebike.

Marini will race for the Aspar Team at the final round of the Moto3 class in Spain’s CEV championship next weekend at Jerez as part of an arrangement between Aspar Team and Rossi’s VR46 Riders Academy. Next season, Marini will compete full time in the CEV for Aspar.

“I really like the new bike. I can tell it has a lot of potential and it was very easy it ride. I had a lot of fun today, it was a very interesting day of testing and I learnt a lot,” says Marini. “I really enjoyed getting to know the team and thanks to their help I made improvements throughout the day. It was a good first test just to get some clear ideas to take to Jerez and now I am looking forward to going there to take part in the final round of the CEV. I got a lot of feedback from the bike under braking and acceleration. It’s a stable and fun bike to ride.”

Rossi has applied for a couple of spots on the Moto3 World Championship grid for his Team Sky VR46 squad, with two seats reserved for Romano Fenati and Francesco Bagnaia, though Marini may be considered for wildcard opportunities. Marini made his Moto3 World Championship debut this season as a wildcard entry at Misano qualifying 29th out of 35 riders but crashing out on the opening lap.

Also taking part in the test was Juanfran Guevera who will ride for Aspar Team in the 2014 Moto3 world championship.
