Ducati 1199 Panigale On The Dyno

Italian magazine Motociclismo is one of the largest and most influential motorcycle publications in all of Europe, and they’ve captured this clip of a Ducati test rider running the new 1199 Panigale on the dyno.

Rider wearing full gear aside (he even flips down his faceshield!), what sticks out to me is how quickly the new Superquadro engine accelerates through its rev range. I was also impressed at the length it took before the rev limiter was reached. I’ve seen my fair share of Ducati’s on the dyno, and it’s clear to me the Superquadro’s oversquare dimensions give it a higher redline than any of them.

Whatever power that engine made is being kept close to heart. Ducati claims figures nearing 200 horsepower at the crankshaft. Time will tell. The press introduction for the 1199 Panigale is set for next month in Abu Dhabi, and we’ll be there to ride what’s easily the most anticipated motorcycle of 2012. Check back then for a full ride report.

In the meantime, this video should whet the appetite.

Troy's been riding motorcycles and writing about them since 2006, getting his start at Rider Magazine. From there, he moved to Sport Rider Magazine before finally landing at Motorcycle.com in 2011. A lifelong gearhead who didn't fully immerse himself in motorcycles until his teenage years, Troy's interests have always been in technology, performance, and going fast. Naturally, racing was the perfect avenue to combine all three. Troy has been racing nearly as long as he's been riding and has competed at the AMA national level. He's also won multiple club races throughout the country, culminating in a Utah Sport Bike Association championship in 2011. He has been invited as a guest instructor for the Yamaha Champions Riding School, and when he's not out riding, he's either wrenching on bikes or watching MotoGP.
