2012 New York International Motorcycle Shows Preview

The 2011-2012 International Motorcycle Shows tour hits the Big Apple this weekend with a number of debuts, Jan. 20-22 at the Jakob K. Javits Convention Center.

Headlining the show is a new 2013 Victory model being introduced by R. Lee Ermey, a.k.a. The Gunny. According to Victory, the new model will be a cruiser that reflects “the American muscle car scene”. The brand new 2013 model will be joined by two custom Victory models, a Zach Ness customized version of the new model and a custom bike produced by Klocks Werks Kustom Motorcycles in memory of one of its fallen employees, Vic Briggs.

Also bowing in New York is a new Honda street bike making its North American debut. We don’t know which model it will be yet, except that it’s described as having “a fresh look, unique styling, and an all-new powerful engine” and its targeted at a “whole new generation of riders”. The first model that comes to mind that fits that description is the Honda Integra scooter/motorcycle crossover or its NC700S and NC700X siblings, but we’ll find out more when the show opens Friday.

Husqvarna is debuting an all-new concept model dubbed the Baja Concept. The new concept is said to be based on a future platform for Husqvarna, representing both street and off-road models.

Husky’s parent company BMW will present its new C600 Sport and C650GT maxi-scooters as well as updated 2012 models like the S1000RR.

Triumph‘s three new 2012 models, the Steve McQueen Edition Bonneville, Speed Triple R and Tiger Explorer will make their U.S. debuts in New York.

Also making their public U.S. debuts are Ducati‘s 2012 848 EVO Corse and the 2012 Diavel Cromo.

Yamaha‘s stand will feature the 2012 YZF-R1 with traction control, and a new custom R1.

BRP will present its 2012 Can-Am Spyder line-up and discuss the future of the brand, likely including a look at its hybrid Spyder prototype.

The Motor Company will showcase three new exhibits from the Harley-Davidson Museum: the Willie G. Davidson Watercolors art exhibit, the “Journey of the Iron Elite” tribute to African-American riders, and the “Worn to be Wild” black leather jacket exhibit.

AMA Hall of Famer Scot Harden and Zero Motorcycles will present its entire 2012 line of electric models including the first to claim a range over 100 miles on a single charge.

Other highlights include a custom motorcycle by Paul Teutul Jr. to be auctioned to benefit the 9/11 Memorial & Museum. Land speed record holder Leslie Porterfield will be meeting fans and signing autographs. Also appearing for a Q&A session is 1993 World Champion Kevin Schwantz.
