Harald Kitsch and the Pegasus Race Team has won its second championship on the EBR 1190RR, capturing the 2011 European Superbike open race class title. The championship follows Kitsch’s win in the 2010 Sound of Thunder V-Twin Championship on the Erik Buell Racing racebike.

While the Sound of Thunder championship was won against other V-Twin machines, the European Superbike class included sportbikes from the Japanese Big Four, BMW, Aprilia and Ducati. Kitsch clinched the championship with a victory at Biketoberfest last month in Germany.

“It is not easy to compete against the inline fours with a V-Twin, especially when the competitors are armed with loads of electronics,” says Jens Kruper, Pegasusraceteam.com crew chief. “But the EBR 1190 has an incredible chassis and brakes, and most of all, absolutely outstanding mechanical traction. That’s the grip level our competitors try to generate with their gadgets. But traction control always means electronically closing the throttle, which most racers do not prefer if they can control themselves. The multiple wins with the EBR 1190RR show that if you have the right chassis, you don’t need that.”

At the Biketoberfest race, the Pegasus Race Team also presented the EBR 1190RS, the street version of the racebike, pictured above ahead of Kitsch’s RR.
