The Toilet Motorcycle [Video]

Have the dreams of countless Iron Butt riders come true? Is the toilet motorcycle from Japanese toilet and plumbing products manufacturer Toto the next evolution in motorcycling conveniences for the lazy rider?

Alas, no. The Toto Toilet Bike Project is a promotional initiative to tout the green-ness of the company’s products.

While the contraption is a functioning motorcycle, it is not a functioning toilet, and does not, as various blog sites, etc., have erroneously stated, run on biofuel converted from freshly minted human poo.

From Toto’s corporate website:

TOILET BIKE NEO does not have the mechanism to run on the rider’s waste. It runs on biogas fuel (fertilized, purified and compressed livestock waste and household water) provided by Shika-oi Town in Hokkaido and Kobe city.

Therefore, the NEO REST seat does not function as a toilet, and has been created for promoting TOTO’s environmental efforts. TOTO is not involved
with any motorbike or biogas production businesses.

According to Toto’s blog starting in October the company is taking the toilet bike on a promotional journey of more than 1000 kilometers starting from “a factory in Kokura to Tokyo.”
