Racing legend, Gary Nixon, passes while recovering from heart attack

Motorcycle racing hero, Gary Nixon, died August 5, 2011 while recovering from heart surgery.

Motorcycle racing legend, Gary Nixon, died today while in intensive care for a heart attack.

According to RoadRacingWorld.com Nixon was admitted to the hospital July 29th for chest pains and later suffered a heart attack that same evening. While in recovery from procedures, Nixon passed this morning (Aug. 5th).

A two-time AMA Grand National Champion (1967 – ’68), Nixon was an accomplished flattrack and road racer. He was inducted into the Motorcycle Hall of Fame in 1998.

Nixon’s no-nonsense racing style was offset by his irreverent sense of humor and warm personality. A true legend in his own time, ol’ #9 was a racer and personality that gives credence to the saying: They don’t make ’em like that anymore.
