The AMA racing veteran will join Steve Atlas to represent Team Icon Brammo at Laguna Seca. Bostrom becomes the latest established racing name to compete in the relatively new field of electric motorcycle racing. Bostrom’s renown in U.S. racing circles gives both Brammo and the TTXGP another boost towards legitimacy in the eyes of those who still have doubts about the potential of electric motorcycles. Germany’s Matthias Himmelmann dominated the FIM e-Power & TTXGP combined event held Sept. 23 at the Le Mans circuit, in opening of the renowned FIM 24 Hours Endurance race.

Not to discount Himmelmann’s win, but the most remarkable thing about the race is how much faster the electric-powered motorcycles lapped the Bugatti circuit this year. Himmelmann completed his fastest lap in 1’54.584 and set a time of 1’52.939 as pole position. In 2010, the fastest lap around the circuit was completed in 2’19 – an incredible 26-second improvement!

After eight laps of racing, Himmelmann’s Münch TTE bike crossed the finish line more than 34 seconds ahead of his nearest competitor.

“This was a start to finish with a victory for the team,” says Himmelmann. “I gave it all my power as well as the power of the bike to push for the win and the result for the whole team is excellent. This is a real team effort; the win belongs to all of us. We have worked really hard to further develop this new bike after a disappointing result at Laguna Seca.” Continue Reading »

Mission Motors rider Steve Rapp led from start to finish to win the Laguna Seca round of the TTXGP and FIM e-Power championships. The race was significant both because it demonstrated the improvements made in electric motorcycle racing over the last year, but also because it was the first joint event held by the two rival electric racing series.

A veteran AMA racer, Rapp took the holeshot and held off 2010 Laguna Seca e-Power winner Michael Czysz and 2010 runner-up Michael Barnes for the win, completing the 8-lap race in 12:40.597, translating to lap times of about 1:35.1.

Rapp’s result showed the advances made in electric motorcycle racing over the last year. Czysz won last year’s 9-lap race in 16:02.596, which translates to an average lap time of about 1:47.0. Rapp’s fastest lap time in this year’s race was 1:33.194, obliterating Czysz record of 1:44.496 set last year.

TTXGP founder and Mavizen Chief Executive Officer Azhar Hussain has been named a Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) by Queen Elizabeth for his services to motorsport.

Hussain, the CEO of eGrandPrix which organizes the TTXGP, the world’s first sanctioned zero emission motorcycle race.

The TTXGP began as a single race on the Isle of Man in 2009 before growing into an international organization with three racing series.

The Order of the British Empire is a knightly order. As an MBE, Hussain joins the order’s lowest rank, though it is still one of Britain’s highest honors.

“It’s the first mainstream award for zero carbon motorsport, and given that we have only two seasons behind us, it symbolises the huge impact we have already made as well as the enormous potential of the industry,” Hussain wrote in an open letter on the TTXGP website. “TTXGP has made a significant contribution to motorsport, and this honour from the Queen acknowledges it.”

Hussain was one of several hundreds of people named by Queen Elizabeth to various classes of the Order on June 11, a British holiday marking the Queen’s ceremonial birthday.
