Colin Edwards will join the Forward Racing team to compete in the 2012 MotoGP season as a Claiming Rule Team entry.

Edwards, known as a good development rider and an even better quote machine, is the first rider to officially sign on with a CRT. Forward Racing may be more familiar to some race fans by its former name, Hayate Racing, the outfit that ran the Kawasaki ZX-RR with Marco Melandri in 2009 after Kawasaki pulled out of MotoGP racing.

“I’ve always been a good test rider and I’m happy that this will be my next challenge,” Edwards tells MotoGP.com.

Forward Racing hasn’t finalized plans on what its machine will use, but Edwards says he hopes it will use a Yamaha R1 engine with a chassis developed by Edwards’ current employers, Tech 3 Racing. Negotiations are currently underway between Forward Racing and Tech 3′s Herve Poncheral.

We love Colin Edwards. Okay, not like that kind of love, but more the “I want to go on a Man-cation with him” kind of way. The man is flat out funny, a guarantee Grade A quote at press conferences and, as he showed in his unexpected podium finish at this year’s British Grand Prix at Silverstone, he’s still fast.

In the Texas Tornado’s latest caper, the two-time World Superbike Champion stars in a Yamaha-produced video where he puts two agents of the Yamaha Extended Service (Y.E.S.) team through basic training.

The video (catch it below, after the jump) was made to promote a new contest from Yamaha, the “Just Say Y.E.S.” Sweepstakes which will give away  a new 2011 Yamaha Zuma 125 scooter and a $1,000 gift card.

Edwards is funny as ever in this video (or as he would say, funny as $#!+). Keep an eye out for a pair of Stars and Stripes track pants, a Shake Weight and Dani Pedrosa’s private dressing room.

As fast as Colin Edwards is on the track, the Texas Tornado may be even quicker behind a microphone.

We saw some of that last year in the Yamaha-produced “Man-Cation” video with Edwards and his then-Tech 3 teammate Ben Spies, and Edwards can always be relied upon for a good quote at press conferences.

The producers of MotoGP’s official video podcast “After the Flag” have taken notice of CEIII’s wit. Edwards and other Grand Prix racers regularly take part in a segment called “Ask the Riders” where they answer questions from fans.  Edwards has proven to be so entertaining in these segments, he’s getting his own new segment on “After the Flag”.

The new “Dear Colin” segment has Edwards giving advice on problems submitted by fans with his usual quick wit. Want to know how to set up your suspension? Ask Colin. Your girlfriend left you? Ask Colin. Having a disagreement with James Toseland? ASK COLIN.

Catch Colin Edwards’ on the After the Flag podcast on iTunes or send in your own personal problem to asktheriders@motogp.com and see what advice Colin will provide.
