This weekend, the MotoGP circus makes its way to the United States for round two of the world championship, held at the stunning new Circuit of the Americas in Austin, Texas, the first time the track will host a world championship level motorcycle event. Expect to see the world’s fastest racebikes reach speeds over 200 mph on the 1 km (0.62-mile) back straight, and bring ear plugs — these bikes are loud!

Fresh off a 1-2 finish in the season opener in Qatar, Jorge Lorenzo and Valentino Rossi are looking to carry the momentum to CotA. Meanwhile, Repsol Honda riders Dani Pedrosa and Marc Marquez, who recently spent three days testing at the circuit, should be strong opposition for the factory Yamaha crew. And don’t forget Cal Crutchlow on the satellite Tech 3 Yamaha M1, as he’s sure to be a threat.

Reading the rules and filling out the form are simple first steps in applying for the 2013 Red Bull Rookies Cup. If chosen, Rookies enter the world of Grand Prix racing, carrying with them their helmet, skill, determination and a capacity for hard work.

Aspiring racers born between January 1st, 1996 and March 31st, 2000 with high performance motorcycle experience are eligible. The best of the Applicants will be invited to a Selection Event later this year and from there a small number will be invited to join the Rookies Cup for 2013.

The  2012 Red Bull Hare Scramble finals at Austria’s “Iron Mountain” will be streamed live on KTM’s website.

The annual Hare Scramble is the culminating event of the 18th Erzberg Rodeo at Austria’s Erzberg “Iron Mountain”. The Red Bull Hare Scramble attracted 1800 entries this year from 35 countries. Those entries will be whittled down to just 500 who will compete on the final day of competition June 10 at 11 a.m., Austrian time (5 a.m. EST, 2 a.m. PST).

The finals will be streamed online at KTM.com as well as RedBull.com and ServusTV.com. The early-morning air-time might be too early for some North American racing fans, but those who watch can see the whole four-hour race in its entirety as well as behind-the-scenes interviews and highlights. Casey Stoner is one of the fastest man in MotoGP right now, currently leading the championship by 29 points. One of his sponsors, Red Bull, produced the following video featuring Stoner in super-slow motion with footage shot at 1,000 frames per second.

Watch as Stoner leans into a corner with his elbow and knee seemingly brushing against the ground. With the video slowed down, Stoner has time to describe how it feels to be riding almost completely horizontal.

I’m not sure which is cooler, seeing the Bridgestone logo on the tire spinning around or Karel Abraham looking over his shoulder and seeing Stoner coming up behind him!
