Troy Bayliss is hosting a dirt track race in Australia featuring 24 current and former racing stars. The inaugural Troy Bayliss Classic takes place Jan. 19 at the three-time World Superbike Champion’s home town of Taree, Australia.

The race will feature entries representing different racing disciplines. Participants include former MotoGP racer Chris Vermeulen, current MotoGP racer Randy de Puniet, three-time Speedway World Champion Jason Crump, Australian Superbike racers Shawn Giles and Jamie Stauffer, former AMA Supermoto Champion Troy Herfoss, motocross racers Stephen Gall, Toby Price, and Josh Brookes, and off-road racer Chris Hollis. When Suzuki pulled out of MotoGP racing a year ago, the manufacturer said it hoped to return by the 2014 season. In the time since suspending its MotoGP program, Suzuki has been showing signs it is on track for a 2014 return.

Work on Suzuki’s 1000cc MotoGP project is apparently proceeding as planned, with the manufacturer reportedly ready to join official testing during the upcoming season.

Speaking to BBC Sport, Dorna Chief Executive Officer Carmelo Ezpeleta confirms Suzuki has asked to be included in some official MotoGP tests during the 2013 Championship. Continue Reading »

The Aspar Team officially presented its CRT MotoGP team including riders Randy de Puniet and Aleix Espargaro and the team’s new Aprilia RSV4-based race bikes.

Aspar is using an ART race bike which consists of an Aprilia-designed aluminum frame with an engine based on the RSV4′s powerplant. Whereas Aprilia claims an output of 178 hp from the production engine, Aspar claims the ART’s 65-degree V4 engine produces over 220 hp. Max speed is said to be over 205 mph.

The team will compete under the name Power Electronics Aspar and will wear the blue color of the team’s title sponsor, a Spanish power generator producer. Continue Reading »
