Harley-Davidson has added the Twin Cam 96, Twin Cam 103 and 2003-2006 CVO Twin Cam 103 engines to its engine remanufacturing program.

The program, which previously accepted 1984 and newer Evolution 1340, Twin Cam 88, Twin Cam 88B and Twin Cam 95 powerplants, takes used engines, rebuilds and repaints them.

Customers can take their existing Harley-Davidson motorcycle to a dealer which will remove the engine and send it back to the factory. Harley-Davidson technicians will disassemble the engines, clean and powder coat any reusable parts and replace any parts that aren’t, reassemble and test them before returning them to the customer.

It’s Chuck Darwin’s 200th birthday! Or “DarwinDay” which is being celebrated all around the world.

If you are not sure who this dead guy is, he was an English naturalist who came up with the Theory of Evolution.

To break the theory down for you (in case you care), Evolution works through Natural Selection. Natural Selection describes how individuals of a species most fit to live in their environment are more likely to survive and carry on their species passing on their genetic traits that gave them a one-up on the competition. The weak and unsuited animals are more likely to be killed off and not pass their traits on.  Natural Selection occurring over many generations can change the species to make them better fit and/or equipped to survive and thus we have Evolution.

To celebrate this day, enjoy this montage of almost Natural Selection at work in the motorcycle world. Don’t worry, no one dies or gets seriously hurt. That’s why I said “almost”.

What if anything do bicycles and motorcycles have in common? Besides the whole two-wheel thing, it isn’t outright apparent that these two “handle-barred beasts” share more than ancient ancestry. Modern Off-road motorcycle and Free-ride bicycle designs side-by-side illustrate how much technology the two have in common. Exploring where the discipline of free-ride motorcycling can go, Project M85 bridges the gap between petrol and pedal-powered adrenaline sports. + A ton of videos after the Jump! Continue Reading »
