Cameron Beaubier led a parade of Yamaha YZF-R6 racebikes to win the 72nd running of the famed Daytona 200. The Yamaha Extended Service Graves Yamaha rider started from pole position and led for 50 of 57 laps before winning by a 22.254-second margin.

Behind Beaubier were four other R6 riders including his teammate Garret Gerloff who finished second. The Y.E.S. riders were followed by Bobby Fong of Triple Crown /RMR, and the RoadRace Factory team’s Jake Gagne and JD Beach. The five Yamaha riders were also the only five to finish on the lead lap.

The race was clean of the red flags that were common in recent runnings of the Daytona 200, but it also lacked the dramatic 0.048-second victory by Joey Pascarella in last year’s race. The 2013 race did produce some noteworthy results however. Continue Reading »

Latus Motors Racing announced it will compete in the 2013 Daytona 200 with Jason DiSalvo, Elena Myers and Kenny Riedmann on the Triumph Daytona 675R.

DiSalvo should be considered one of the favorites for the Daytona 200. DiSalvo won the 2011 edition of the race on a Ducati 848 for Latus, and nearly did it again in 2012, finishing second on a Triumph Daytona 675R sporting a special livery in tribute to Gary Nixon. Amazingly, DiSalvo was just 0.048 seconds behind the winner Joey Pascarella despite having to make an early pit stop to replace his rear tire.

“I’m really happy to be back on the Latus Motors Racing team and can’t wait to get back to Daytona’s high banks,” said DiSalvo. “I’m especially excited about the opportunity to have Kenny and Elena as teammates. The past few seasons with Latus and Triumph have been awesome, and I’m so happy to continue this great relationship. We’re going to have some great racing.” Continue Reading »

Elena Myers has undergone surgery to repair a broken bone in her left wrist. The SuzukiScoopFans Suzuki GSX-R600 rider originally injured the wrist in a supermoto crash last year but the broken scaphoid bone was not diagnosed until just prior to the Daytona round where Myers picked up her second career AMA Supersport victory.

“It bothered me here and there. I thought it was just the aftermath of the Supermoto crash but I never thought anything was seriously wrong,” says Myers. “I tested at Jennings GP before Daytona and it bothered me. I had a shocking-type pain; a surge. The next day was totally fine and I played 18 holes of golf. Later it started hurting really bad at home and I got it checked out and they found out what was wrong.” Continue Reading »

Elena Myers made history once again, winning the second of two AMA Supersport races at Daytona International Speedway. The win was Myers’ second professional AMA victory and gives her the distinction of being the first female racer to ever win a professional motorsports race at the famed Daytona circuit.

The SuzukiScoopFans M4 Suzuki rider became the first woman to win an AMA race, taking an AMA Supersport race at Infineon Raceway in 2010. That race ended on a red flag however, making her Daytona win her first in an interrupted race, with the checkered flag waving as she crossed the finish line first in the second Supersport race 0.239 second ahead of Corey Alexander. Elena Myers completed demonstration five laps of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway circuit on the Suzuki GSV-R, becoming the first woman to ride an 800cc MotoGP race bike.

The 17-year-old AMA Supersport racer was clocked going as fast as 190 mph along the front straight as regular Grand Prix racers including Rizla Suzuki‘s Alvaro Bautista watched on.

“Wow! I can’t really say anything else; it was just such an incredible experience! I can’t thank the guys at Suzuki MotoGP enough – they have been awesome!” says Myers. “This makes me so hungry to come out here and try it someday for real on a race weekend: Well I guess this is a race weekend, but I mean for real next time. I can’t say enough about the bike either; it does everything 20 times better than I ever would have imagined – this has just been amazing and I think I’ll slowly realize what just happened over the next couple of days. The GSV-R just blew me away!”

Elena Myers will ride demonstration laps of Indianapolis Motor Speedway on the Suzuki GSV-R.

After a visit at the Rizla Suzuki garage during the 2010 U.S. Grand Prix at Laguna Seca, the 17-year-old Myers received an invitation to ride the GSV-R at the post-season test in Valencia, Spain. Those plans fell through however, but Myers will now get her chance to ride a MotoGP racebike at 12:45 pm on on Aug. 25, press day for the Indianapolis Grand Prix.
