Harley-Davidson has revealed a new member to its Dyna family featuring quick change convertibility from touring to cruiser mode.

As we expected, the new Harley-Davidson Dyna Switchback features hard saddlebags and fork-mounted windshield that can be removed quickly and without tools, allowing it to change from a touring motorcycle to a cruiser, and back again.

The Dyna Switchback uses Harley-Davidson’s Twin Cam 103 engine, 2-into-1 chrome exhaust, and five-spoke cast aluminum wheels with full fenders.

According to Harley-Davidson, the Switchback has a curb weight of 718 pounds, about 94 pounds lighter than the Road King.

Documents released by the California Air Resources Board reveal two new models from Harley-Davidson’s 2012 lineup: a 10th anniversary edition V-Rod and a new member of the Dyna family.

The CARB documents list motorcycles that have received approval for the state of California.

The Motor Company has received approval for several 2012 models including the 2012 Harley-Davidson Night Rod Special Anniversary and the 2012 Harley-Davidson Switchback.

The special edition Night Rod marks the 10th anniversary of Harley-Davidson’s V-Rod family, and is expected to feature a unique color scheme and badging.

The Switchback will use Harley-Davidson’s 103 cubic-inch (1688cc) V-Twin engine, which will also be introduced to the Fat Bob and the Wide Glide, and it will likely share the Dyna chassis as well. It is rumored the Switchback will be a touring version of the Wide Glide but with removable bags and windscreen, thus allowing it to “switch back” to a cruiser.

Also notable from the CARB documents is the omission of three models, the Softail Cross Bones, Softail Rocker and Street Glide Trike.
