Ryan Villopoto continues to be in championship form, taking his third consecutive victory and sixth of the season with a win at Lucas Oil Stadium for the Indianapolis round of the 2013 AMA Supercross Championship.

The Monster Energy Kawasaki rider had a calculated, methodical race to take the win and expand his championship lead to nine points ahead of Davi Millsaps.

Millsaps took the holeshot in a chaotic start to the main event that saw several riders go down at the opening corner. Millsaps’ lead was shortlived, as the Rockstar Suzuki rider went too far wide on a turn, allowing Yoshimura Suzuki‘s James Stewart to take the lead. Millsaps managed to stay ahead of Villopoto with Red Bull KTM‘s Ryan Dungey also in the mix. Continue Reading »

Ryan Villopoto captured his series-leading fourth win of the season in a red-flagged main event before a record crowd of 60,178 at St. Louis’ Edwards Jones Dome, as the 2013 AMA Supercross season reaches its midway point.

The race started with MotoConcepts Suzuki rider Mike Alessi taking the holeshot with Muscle Milk Honda‘s Justin Barcia and Yoshimura Suzuki‘s James Stewart on his tail. Last week’s winner Stewart later quickly moved into the lead but the race was soon halted on Lap 3 after JGRMX Yamaha‘s Kyle Chisholm and BTO Sports KTM‘s Matt Goerke collided on a jump.

The race was halted so a medical crew could attend to Chisholm. While the red flag was out however, Villopoto performed a double jump instead of rolling through it as required, forcing officials to penalize him on the restart. After Chisholm was carted off the track, the riders lined up in a staggered formation in the order they were in the previous lap, except for Villopoto who was penalized three positions, dropping him to sixth from third place. Davi Millsaps captured his second main event win of the season and expanded his AMA Supercross championship lead to 19 points with a wire-to-wire victory at Qualcomm Stadium in San Diego.

The Rockstar Energy Suzuki rider jumped ahead at the start for the holeshot and held that lead for the entire 20-lap race for the win. Finishing 2.386 seconds back was Team Honda Muscle Milk‘s Justin Barcia while Red Bull KTM‘s Ryan Dungey finished 10.300 seconds back for third place.

Following Millsaps through the first corner were RCH Dodge Suzuki rider Broc Tickle and TwoTwo Motorsports Honda‘s Chad Reed. Barcia joined the lead group and moved past Tickle for third spot on Lap 3. Millsaps, Reed and Barcia formed the lead pack for much of the first half of the race. Continue Reading »

Ryan Villopoto claimed his first win of the 2013 AMA Supercross season and his first since the knee injury at last year’s Seattle round that kept him out of the 2012 AMA Motocross championship. The victory in front of 37,789 fans at Angel Stadium in Anaheim, Calif., made up for his disappointing 16th place finish two weeks earlier at the same site.

His Monster Energy Kawasaki teammate Jake Weimer held the early advantage in the main event, taking the holeshot ahead of the Honda Muscle Milk duo of Justin Barcia and Trey Canard.

Canard took the lead in Lap 2 and last week’s winner Barcia moved briefly into second on Lap 3 before coming short on a triple jump and crashing out. That opened room for Rockstar Suzuki‘s Davi Millsaps and Villopoto to move into the top three. Villopoto passed Millsaps on Lap 5 and took over the lead a lap later, hanging on to win by 6.886 seconds. Continue Reading »

Justin Barcia led all 20 laps to earn his first career victory in the 450cc class of the AMA Supercross Championship. The Team Honda Muscle Milk rider took the holeshot and never looked back to take his maiden win in front of 50,109 fans at Chase Field in Phoenix, Ariz.

“I can’t tell you how excited I am right now,” says Barcia. “I didn’t think this win would come so soon. I kept it smooth out there, but the track was super slick. It was a great night for me.”

Following Barcia out of the first corner were Anaheim 1 winner Davi Millsaps of Rockstar Energy Suzuki and TwoTwo Motorsports Honda rider Chad Reed, an order they would maintain for the opening 11 laps. Monster Energy Kawasaki‘s Ryan Villopoto was also among the early front-runners but slid out on a corner, dropping him from fourth to eighth. Continue Reading »

Ryan  Villopoto is eager to repeat his $1 million win in 2011 at the 2012 Monster Energy Cup.

The  Monster Energy Cup returns this Saturday, October 20, for its second year,  providing motocross and supercross pro riders a shot at the $250,000 purse, with the winner walking away with a $100,000 check. However, any rider that wins all three main events will take home an outrageously lucrative $1 million bounty, as Ryan Villopoto did in the inaugural 2011 event.

Villopoto is planning for a back-to-back million-dollar sweep of the Cup, held again this year at Sam Boyd Stadium in Las Vegas, NV. ”It’s pretty unreal,” said Villopoto last year on winning the $1 million. “I’m happy we were able to pull it off. To back it up in 2012 will be hard, so if we do, it would be great.”  However, Villopoto is confident for the 2012 event, saying earlier this year that he’s ready to repeat. “I want everyone to know I am ready to defend my title.”

Defending champion Ryan Villopoto won his third consecutive AMA Supercross race in Arlington, Texas, but the victory was overshadowed by a season-ending injury suffered by one of his main challengers Chad Reed.

TwoTwo Motorsport Honda‘s Reed trailed Villopoto in second place for the first six laps at Cowboys Stadium. Disaster struck on Lap 7 however as Reed crashed hard in the whoops. Initial evaluations revealed a broken tibia and fibula, a torn anterior cruciate ligament, two broken ribs and a broken vertebrae. Doctors are waiting for the swelling in Reed’s knee to subside before conducting surgery.

As a result, Reed’s Supercross season is over and the veteran will instead focus on recuperating in time for the outdoor AMA Motocross season.

Ryan Villopoto captured his second straight victory, winning the San Diego round of the 2012 AMA Supercross championship. The Monster Energy Kawasaki rider now has three wins on the season, two more than anyone else, but his hold on the championship points lead has only increased to six points.

Villopoto took the lead on the second lap of the main event after overtaking Brett Metcalfe of Yoshimura Suzuki who took the holeshot, with Villopoto‘s teammate Jake Weimer also in the lead group. Meanwhile, the other top contenders, Chad Reed, James Stewart and Ryan Dungey, battled for position behind them.

The 2012 AMA Supercross season is shaping up to be a tight one, with four racers and former champions healthy and jockeying for position on top of the points standings. Ryan Villopoto, Chad Reed, Ryan Dungey and James Stewart have all claimed wins in the first four rounds. After the second Anaheim round, the four contenders, representing four different manufacturers, are separated by just 13 points.

Jumping out to the front for the moment is Monster Energy Kawasaki‘s Ryan Villopoto who picked up his second win of the season, and second at Angel Stadium. Villopoto becomes the first racer to score two wins this season.

The Reigning AMA Supercross Champion took the holeshot and led all 20 laps to win for the win. Villopoto also took the season opening Anaheim I round on Jan. 7. Continue Reading »

The 2012 AMA Supercross Championship race is getting tighter with a fourth race winner in as many rounds following James Stewart‘s victory in Oakland, Calif.

The JGRMX Yamaha racer captured his first win of the 2012 season at Oakland’s O.co Coliseum. Stewart out-dueled longtime rival Chad Reed of TwoTwo Motorsports Honda for the win. Stewart later dedicated the win to his training mechanic Mark “Tex” Adams who passed away Jan. 26, reportedly getting run over while helping another stranded motorist.

“I would like to dedicate this win to my mechanic, Mark ‘Tex’ Adams, who passed away this week,” says Stewart. “I got in a rhythm out there tonight and put together a great race. I had a tough couple of races this year, and tonight I got it done.”
