According to Edelweiss Bike Travel, its the longest motorcycle expedition ever offered on Earth, in terms of distance and duration.

The 248 day journey will begin from Mieming, Austria, which happens to be the headquarters of the tour operator, Edelweiss Bike Travel, on November 14, 2010 and ends on July 20, 2011.

Looks like there are many options or paths you can take if your not interested in going for the full 248 days.  The trip is broken up into 5 sections and from that there are 6 different packages to choose from.

Section 1: Mieming, Austria to Dakar, Senegal (35 days)

Section 2+3: Buenos Aires, Argentina to Los Angeles (101 days)

Section 5: Beijing, China to Mieming, Austria (56 days)

Section 2+3+4+5: Buenos Aires, Argentina to Mieming, Austria (192 days)

Section 1+2+3: Mieming, Austria to Los Angeles (150 days)

Section 1+2+3+4: Mieming, Austria to Perth, Australia (186 days)

For details on each section, price list and whats exactly included, check out the Edelweiss Bike Travel website but the general price range is from $9,600 US (per rider) to $101,200 US (per rider) for the full tour.  There is a separate charge for passengers and a single room supplement fee on top.

I love this place, and I don’t ride a motorcycle. I just come here for espresso (illy’s) which is the best in the area. The staff is incredible, some of the nicest people you will meet, they have reliable wifi, and the decor is perfect, they have had some sweet bikes there, right now there is a prop bike from what looks like a post apocalyptic biker film. This place is just way too cool for it to never be busy in there and I hope it sticks around.

This was my first trip to the Port Dover rally and though I really didn’t know what to expect, I was pleasantly surprised by the whole event. As soon as I got within 30 minutes of Port Dover motorcyclists could be seen en masse and it was apparent there would be a solid turnout. Even when I left the rally hours later, people were still riding in.

Cruising around the rally you could see everything from stretched sport bikes to raked out choppers… even a few vintage Vespas! Of course, a few thousand Harley riders were on hand as well.

If you live close to this Lake Erie destination I think it would be worth your while to make the trip up for the next meet in August, 2010. I guarantee you there will be more than triple the turnout if we get typical summer riding temperatures.

Friday the 13th in Port Dover history.

Just check out the rules on RockMoto.com, fill your tank with petrol, your brain with ideas and your camera with footage of your choice. Tell them how far you went on one tank and the adventure you had getting there, or tell how far you didn’t go and how many feet of snow had your bike parked for the season. Hell, you don’t even need to have a motorcycle in your video! Just be creative and be fast, there’s only a few weeks left to produce your video response and get it posted on YouTube. Keep it safe, legal and under 5 minutes long, ­ think webisode, not graduation ceremony.

One tank, plus one day might equal $1000 if you’re chosen. And even a half-assed effort might still win you 500 bux, so get to work!

Harley-Davidson announced yesterday that the final bike built by Buell, a Lightning XB12Scg, rolled off the production line on October 30. This marked the 136,923th motorcycle built by Buell in its 26 years of operation.

On October 15 Buell’s parent company, Harley-Davidson, announced that the Buell line-up would be discontinued effective December 18, 2009. The move, along with ditching its investment in MV Agusta, was seen as necessary by Harley.

This desperate act was done solely to keep Harley’s “84.1 percent decline in net income and an 84.5 percent decline in diluted earnings per share from the year-ago [3rd] quarter” from plummeting even further.

Buells will be for sale at dealers until stock is depleted. Current Buell owners can rest peacefully knowing that Buell, or rather Harley, will continue to supply Buell parts for another seven years as mandated by federal law.

Regardless of your opinion of Buell motorcycles, you can’t deny this is a dark day for all of motorcycling, and not just Harley-Davidson.

Erik Buell had an undeniable passion for his products as viable and competitive (even superior if you ask him!) alternatives to other brands in the sportbike segment. If you’ve ever met Erik or heard him speak, you’ll understand.

Don’t know ‘bout you, but this photo gets me all choked up, as if I, too, have suffered a personal loss. In fact, I think all of us in the U.S. motorcycling community have suffered an immense loss.

Update Nov 13: Last Buell Motorcycle Rolls Off the Line

An emotional Erik Buell has posted a video on the Buell Motorcycle site officially announcing that Harley-Davidson has shut down all Buell motorcycle production.  Harley-Davidson will honor all warranties for Buell owners, Buell dealers will still be selling the limited supply of bikes that are currently on hand.  Visit Motorcycle.com News for more details.

The highlight of the event will be quarter-mile legend Dale Walker trying to set new VMax records on bikes modified to produce 200 horsepower at the rear wheel. Traction has proven to be an issue for the current VMax, so drag slicks have been spooned on to harness the big power through the shaft drive. Walker will also be offering free drag race lessons. Only Yamaha motorcycles are allowed in the event.

Motorcycle.com’s Fonzie will be there to capture the sights and sounds of the mighty V-4 engines roaring down the track.
