Can-Am Spyder RT-5 Highlight Video

Spyder Fred takes you on a cross-country video tour

In September, Fonzie brought us a report on the 2010 Spyder RT direct from the Can-Am beehive in Valcourt, Quebec, Canada.

With more carrying capacity than ANY motorcycle on the market — even some automobiles —- Can-Am sent touring guru and friend-of-MO, Fred Rau, on a tour of Canada and the United States to promote the new 5-speed luxury touring roadster. For those of you not following Fred’s blog @ SpyderFred.com, here’s a little taste of the scenes and opinions he encountered on his great many miles.

Who Says the Spyder isn’t a Motorcycle?

Motorcycles can have three wheels…or four…or one

After I posted the preview for the new Spyders, the forum board got me fired up again. Every time I write about something eccentric, the progeny of Merriam Webster like to write in and remind me that Spyders aren’t motorcycles. I would disagree, but no one will remember this next time no matter what I say, I’d put money on that.

There’s a difference between what you believe and what you know. Nowhere in the construct of the word motorcycle does it suggest a limit on the number of wheels. Are you riding motor-bicycles? Are you riding at all? KPaul? The very ‘first’ motorcycle had 4 wheels by the way. Damn you facts!

What would be your opinion on the Enicycle? Or a trike? Don’t answer that….

How about we just call the Spyder a motor-tricycle? Better yet, let’s call it a Reitwagen (riding car) from now on. And, yes, I got that from Wikipedia.

Although motorcycles are most commonly two-wheeled motor vehicles, they can be so much more. The world isn’t flat anymore!  And if you don’t like choppers, sport bikes, dualies or whizzers, don’t ride ‘em. That just leaves more for me to ride!

In my search through the Motorcycle.com community forums (see the links at the very bottom of this page) to find some handy, insightful and practical tips or projects for readers to check out, I’ve stumbled across a few bizarre things.

I felt I had to post this one.  It is awesome and scary all at the same time.

Blackdog 15 of the harley-davidsonforums.com has posted his method on mounting a sidearm (or two) on his motorcycle.  He admits that he and a buddy had a few drinks to inspire them on how they would attach such instruments of death to their rides.

I guess it’s kind of obvious (and hilarious) that they had a few drinks.

See the rest of the post for some more pics.  Go sign up on harley-davidsonforums.com to give a friendly hello and a pat on the back for a job well done.

Grab the wallpaper and click over to SPECs where you’ll find honest user reviews for this bike. Don Hutchinson reviewed the Electra Glide in December, calling it a “Great Machine” and gave it a perfect Rating! Phil Nuccio also gave it a 5/5 rating all ’round and uploaded a picture of his HD for all of us to enjoy. “After many years on Yamaha Ventures this is my first HD and it is truly a pleasure to ride. Much lower center of gravity much easier to handle. The riding position, comfort, reliability, and value retention make this the best bike I have ever owned.” says Phil. Don’t forget to grab the wallpaper after the jump. Peace.

Harley-Davidson Tri-Glide Led Inauguration Parade

Modified Hogs welcomed by Police Force

While at the time, most of the attention was on President Barack Obama, motorcycle enthusiasts would have surely noticed the one-of-a-kind 2009 Harley-Davidson Police concept Tri-Glide Ultra Classic which led the inauguration parade to the White House on January 20th.

Lieutenant Scott Fear, Commander of the U.S. Park Police Motor Unit, led a dozen side car-equipped Electra Glides in a formation riding the heavily modified Trike, which was sourced by Harley-Davidson of Frederick.

Harley-Davidson Archive Collection

The ultimate Harley book for the ultimate enthusiast

Harley-Davidson has been building motorcycles for a long time. Over 105 years in fact, according to the summer celebration I attended in Milwaukee last summer. Who could have guessed over a century ago that the company would be alive and thriving today? Fortunately someone at the organization had the foresight to store examples of the bikes being manufactured over the years within the HD facility.
