Scooters have exploded in major cities all over North America.  I remember seeing them long long ago and thinking “that’s adorable”.

Well no more! Scooters are the “new cool” for downtown workers.  I see business men and women jetting around on these things everyday and I can’t help but be a little envious (as I walk to the congested subway station). A downtown core can be your oyster with this handy and cheap form of transportation.

QLINK has just announced on Twitter (yes, we do pay attention to Twitter..) that their new Rave 50 and 150 scooters are now available.

I don’t know about you guys, but a motorcycle or scooter that is under 50cc around here doesn’t require a full motorcycle license.  That means anyone looking for a two wheeler to almost instantly jump on and go can grab this thing and be set.

And why QLINK?  I don’t know if you saw a post we did earlier, but they will deliver the thing right to your door if no QLINK dealer is near you!

Now, to convince my boss to order one for me and in exchange I’ll go out everyday on it and do a coffee run for him.

How low can you go? This years 10 least expensive scooters are in a metaphorical limbo contest when it comes to pricing. You’ll find all 10 of the cheapest scooters slide easily under the bar from $1,300 to $1,800. Only a $500 difference between 10 models. In fact the competition is still strong even among the 30 or so least expensive scooters. A $600 spread among the 20 least expensive and an $800 spread among the 30 least expensive scooters topping off around $2100. So you many not want to limit your selection to the Top 10. Do your research and find out if that extra $500, $600 or $800 is worth the scrilla’ depending on your personal needs.

If you are looking into buying an inexpensive scooter this year – the chances are you will only have one option when it comes to power. An assortment of 50 cc 1-cyclinder 2-stroke engines have become standard issue. For those who desire a little more power there are still some 125 cc and 150 cc options on the market which are still able to slide in at a low price.

The one brand dominating the Top 10 list QLINK, taking 1st place with standings in Top 10, 20 and 30. Competitive brands include E-ton, Kymco, Hyosung, Schwinn, SYM, United Motors, Piaggio, Yamaha, Honda and Aprilia – Almost everyone! After getting a first hand look at the Vectrix superbike concept at the Dealer Expo last year, I was excited to get our hands on one for a review, check out some shots of it after the jump.

Aprilia just posted some new videos on YouTube for their 2009 Scarabeo scooters and damn, they are cheesy.  The most cheesy thing about them is the music.  The 80’s called…

The 3 minute video features several different kinds of Aprilia Scarabeo scooter and each one has its own “music” to accompany it.  Awesome!

Vespa has posted up 2 new videos promoting their 2009 Vespa LX 50 4T 4V, 2009 Vespa LX 150 and 2009 Vespa GTS 125 Super.

I don’t know about you but I feel like listening to my iPod when watching these videos.  The dancing silhouettes have been done before, Vespa…  Also, the dancing people work better for an advertisement of a music player then for a scooter, but I guess you are trying to show people how much fun Vespa scooters are.

And they do look like fun, especially whizzing around some European town.  But are they fun enough to dance too?

The scooter comes with a peppy and fuel efficient, liquid-cooled fuel-injected four-stroke 153cc single-cylinder engine riding on 16-inch wheels and also features the Combined Braking System (CBS).

The terms ‘high-performance’ and ‘scooter’ usually fit together about as well as pickles and peanut butter but Stuart Owen has customized his 1970 Lambretta to be among the fastest in the world. Owen, a former fish wholesaler who now runs a scooter customizing business, currently holds the fastest speed achieved by a Lambretta on British soil at 117.3 mph.

In addition to beating British titles and breaking track times, Owen, has handily beaten 250cc motorcycles during many races. He is now parting with his prized Lambretta so will be entering his two-wheeler into the auction at the 29th International Classic Motorcycle Show at Stafford’s County Showground on April 25-26. Auctioneer Bonhams has slapped a reserve price of £7,500 on the Lambretta, which has been lengthened, chopped, lightened and tuned. If your favorite movie happens to be Quadrophenia and you have £10,000 burning a hole in your pocket, this may be the ride you’ve been waiting for.

Hella flush approved. <-hells yeah. This modded Ruckus is maxed-out with after market parts and about a thousand-times more sweetness than the stock version. Does anyone have video of a customized ruckus in action? More pics after the jump.
