Triumph will produce a 250cc twin-cylinder naked bike for the Asian market in 2014, according to the director of the brand’s Indonesian distributor.

Rudhy Siswanto, president director of PT Global Motorcycle Trading, says the new small-displacement Triumph will be produced at the company’s new factory in Narasapur, India, outside of Bangalore which is set to begin operation in 2014.

“The factory in India is focused on small engines. If it is realized, we’ll bring it in Indonesia, because of the potential and not losing competitiveness to other motors of the same same 250 cc engine capacity, ” Siswanto tells Kompas Otomotif.

Rumors of a small-displacement model have been around since Triumph announced plans to enter the Indian market in 2011. The sketch above has been floating around the Internet for nearly as long. The 2013 Triumph Trophy is being recalled because a NHTSA label listing the sport-tourer’s tire data has the wrong information.

According to documents released by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the tire label on some Triumph Trophy models list erroneous tire and laden weight information. The labels are mandated by NHTSA and can be found affixed to the left side of the main frame headstock on the Trophy. The correct information should specify a 120/70 17 front tire and a 190/55 17 rear tire for the Trophy.

Customers looking for replacement tires may be relying on the wrong information posted on the label, and may thus purchase the wrong tires. Using the wrong tires may affect the motorcycle’s performance and increase the risk of injury. Continue Reading »

UPDATE: Two new images have emerged.

A photograph of a production-read 2013 Triumph Daytona 675 has emerged, weeks before the revised three-cylinder sportbike’s expected introduction at the 2012 EICMA show in Milan, Italy.

The photograph popped up on the Triumph675.net forum, a member of the Motorcycle.com forum network. The picture shows a new subframe, revised bodywork and the absence of an undertail exhaust.

We’ve previously seen video of the updated D675 undergoing testing in 2011, revealing the new underslung exhaust. The Daytona also likely receives the same new frame and subframe as on the updated 2013 Triumph Street Triple recently revealed at Intermot. Triumph has redesigned its Street Triple for 2013, revealing the updated 675cc naked bikes at the 2012 Intermot show in Cologne, Germany.

2013 Triumph Street Triple and the slightly more up-spec Street Triple R receive an all-new chassis featuring aluminum beam twin-spar frames and two-piece die-cast rear subframes. According to Triumph, the new chassis optimizes agility and handling with fewer welds than the previous frame and helping reduce the overall wet weight by 13 pounds to 403 pounds. Continue Reading »

Triumph is issuing a recall on the Daytona 675, the Street Triple and the Street Triple R for model years 2006-2009.

According to documents released by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the regulator rectifier on the affected Triumph units may overheat, damaging its internal components. This may affect the regulator rectifier’s ability to control the charge capacity of the batteries, potentially leading the battery to become discharged completely.

The recalled motorcycles are equipped with regulator rectifiers produced by Kokusan. Later models use a component produced by Shindengen which have higher temperature tolerances than the Kokusan unit. Continue Reading »

The estate of legendary motorcycle racer and all around fun guy, Gary Nixon, will go on auction June 16,2012, in York, PA.

Nixon passed in August, 2011, while recovering from heart surgery. A two-time AMA Grand National Champion (1967 – ’68), Nixon was an accomplished flattrack and road racer. He was inducted into the Motorcycle Hall of Fame in 1998.

Of the many items listed in the auction are a number of Nixon’s motorcycles, including a Triumph Cub, a 1968 Triumph 250, another racing Triumph Cub, and his personal 2009 Kawasaki Ninja 250.

Triumph announced a number of new paint schemes for several of its models. While the new options are for the most part merely cosmetic, the lone exception is the new sulfur yellow 2012 Triumph Daytona 675.

We’re not quite sure it’s good marketing for a color scheme that reminds you of the smell of rotten eggs, but the sulfur yellow Daytona 675 also sports a number of upgrades. In addition to the new paint and matching pin-striped wheels, the sulfur yellow D675 gets new carbon fiber exhaust heat shield, cockpit infills and front fender like those on the Daytona 675R. The sulfur yellow model gets a quickshifter and billet levers.

The best news is the price, at least in the U.K. While the base 2012 Triumph Daytona 675 is priced at 8,599 British pounds (US$13,750), the sulfur yellow version with these upgrades is priced at 8,875 British pounds (US$14,200). A slight increase, but still less than buying those components separately. U.S. pricing is yet to be confirmed, but the MSRP is expected to remain close, if not level, at $10,999. Continue Reading »

Motorcycle tour operator EagleRider is launching a new program for non-riders. Celebrating its 20th anniversary this year, EagleRider offers motorcycle rentals and guided motorcycle tours. Until now however, you had to have a motorcycle license or ride as a passenger with another traveler who does.

The new Pillion Ride & Day Tours programs puts people on the passenger seat behind Motorcycle Safety Foundation certified tour guides who will show them the sights. Harley-Davidson dealerships topped the rankings for the 2012 edition of the Pied Piper Prospect Satisfaction Index, an industry benchmarking study examining how well dealerships treat customers, and turning shoppers into buyers.

The Pied Piper PSI rated different manufacturers’ dealerships in a number of categories to produce an overall score. The study was conducted between July 2011 and April 2012 with 1,653 anonymous “mystery shoppers” gathering information at different dealerships across the U.S.

The study gave Harley-Davidson dealers a score of 108, a four-point improvement from 2011 and five points above the industry average. According to researchers, Harley-Davidson dealers scored the highest of all brands in 16 different categories, including offering test rides, obtaining contact information and asking customers if for the sale.
