The association between Triumph and TAG Heuer comes as a result of their common values and the legacy of Steve McQueen, who was famously linked to both brands.

The TAG Heuer Bonneville features a unique blue and orange paint scheme that was inspired by the Porsche sports car driven by Steve McQueen’s character in the movie Le Mans (1971). McQueen wore TAG Heuer’s Monaco watch in the movie, and today TAG Heuer is celebrating the 40th Anniversary of the watch.

McQueen rode Triumph motorcycles personally and in movies such as The Great Escape (1963). Triumph Motorcycles continues that relationship with McQueen’s estate to create vintage styled McQueen apparel. For 2010, the Triumph clothing range includes a jacket and t-shirt reminiscent of when McQueen raced a Triumph in the International Six Days Trials in Germany.

“We are delighted to play our part in this exciting project. The Triumph Bonneville and TAG Heuer Monaco are both timeless masterpieces, celebrating their respective 50th and 40th anniversaries this year,” said Neil Morley, Triumph’s Head of Brand Communications. “We also both have a natural connection with Steve McQueen, who famously wore a Monaco watch in the film Le Mans and was renowned for his love of our bikes, making this a very natural collaboration.”

The special Triumph Bonneville was unveiled in Paris by Lewis Hamilton, the 2008 Formula One world champion and TAG Heuer brand ambassador, and can be seen at various watch shows and TAG Heuer retailers throughout Europe.

The Triumph Bonneville was born in 1959 to recognize Johnny Allen’s land speed records at the Bonneville Salt Flats. The Triumph Bonneville was an instant hit in America and the UK, and 50 years later continues to be one of Triumph’s most iconic motorcycles. Despite its classic appearance, the new Triumph Bonneville motorcycles feature state-of-the-art design and performance.

The full range of Triumph motorcycles are available at authorized Triumph dealers throughout North America. To find your local Triumph dealer, please visit www.TriumphMotorcycles.com.

Seen in this Photo: Pete Brissette beams past complex industrial landscape on a picturesque early-summer day. Structures which contrast the tuned, polished and peppy café racer that Pete guides easily through the terrain. Looks like fun!

A man who was at one time the highest paid actor in Hollywood, he avoided the limelight in favor of immersing himself within his passion for motorcycles. Never afraid of getting dirty, McQueen was at his happiest flogging a bike around the track with fellow racers or tinkering with the machines himself.

In an attempt to rekindle that passion, a limited edition of 300 Métisse Steve McQueen Desert Racer’s are on sale now. Complete bikes utilize a fully reconditioned period Triumph TR6 engine complete with a single Amal carburettor. Carefully constructed to employ modifications made by McQueen himself all those years ago, the bikes include styled footrests made to his original design and 35mm Ceriani forks with 7-inches of travel, which he found to be ideal through his experience. The yokes are from BSA, which were his preference because of the handlebar position which is set behind the steering stem which he found offered better control. The Metisse website boasts a quote from McQueen saying, “This rig is the best handling bike I’ve ever owned.” This reference was made about the original models constructed by Derek and Don Rickman, as McQueen succumbed to lung Cancer in 1980 at age 50.

This Desert Racer adopts a Mk III chrome-moly, nickel plated, oil bearing frame. Chromed steel wheel rims, period-accurate chromed exhausts, scramble rear tyre, trials front tire, Amal competition levers and twist grip. A period Triumph front hub with BSA rear, along with an authentic color coded tank, seat and panels round out the project. This bike is sold in its original form as a thoroughbred competition racer.

Each limited edition Desert Racer from Métisse comes with its own framed and embossed certificate of authenticity and Steve McQueen’s signature on the tank badge.

While some were fortunate to have biking in their blood and Hogs in their garage, others have undoubtedly become acquainted through the various forms of media within popular culture. Whether you caught the itch from seeing Marlon Brando in The Wild Ones, or Erik Estrada in CHiPs, many riders were inspired by images that shone upon the silver screen or appeared on their television sets each week. Not simply reserved for bikes from the entertainment industry, many a rider has become infatuated with the two-wheeled world through motorsport.

While some bikes can been seen as strictly transportation, there are those that are able to transcend the ordinary and reach a status of epidemic proportions. There are surely many hard-working acting professionals that would covet the sort of notoriety attained by scene stealers like Captain America’s chopper and the Billy bike from Easy Rider or even some of the Harleys jumped by Evel Knievel. Such motorcycles, among others have infiltrated mainstream culture and captured the imagination of millions. Other examples include the personal bikes owned by T.E. Lawrence, Elvis Presley and a young James Dean, all of whom shared a great passion for motorcycles

Boasting a foreword by comedian and renowned gearhead Jay Leno, Legendary Motorcycles boasts 26 chapters on some of the most historically significant bikes in existence. Highlighted by original photography and rare historical images of the actual bikes, this book profiles motorcycles that have become legends in their own time. Certainly a compliment to the significance and quality of the book, LM was a finalist for the Dean Bachelor Awards, which are given out each year by the Motor Press Guild for exceptional achievements by automotive journalists.

Motorcycle journalist Basem Wasef provides well-researched, in-depth descriptions about a carefully chosen selection of bikes and the stories behind their notoriety. Those stories, recounted in fascinating detail, make Legendary Motorcycles an interesting read for anyone with an interest in the relevance of historic motorcycles and the people who rode them.

Those darned teenagers and their troublesome ways could use some motorcycle-inspired gifts for the holidays. And although you may not understand the mind of a teenager, you can at least massage their brains a bit by imposing your motorcycle hobby onto them.

Here are 5 awesome motorcycle gift ideas for pesky teenagers:

Capcom’s MotoGP 08 Video Game

Recommended Ages: Rated E for Everyone
Who Has It: Anyone who sells video games should have it ( BestBuy for example )
How Much: $59.99

They’re not old enough yet to be speeding around a track at ridiculous speeds but at least they can pretend to be and MotoGP will put them in the riders seat. Capcom just released this video game this fall so it should be on any gamer/rider’s radar.

Features include:

Intuitive Arcade controls complement Intermediate and Simulation handling modes, making this a highly accessible racing experience for all audiences

Ride as yourself and compete against riders from the world’s premier motorcycling championship

Challenge three engine classes, including 125cc, 250cc and MotoGP™ classes

Selectable CPU AI allows custom matching to skill levels

Pit your riding skills against players from across the globe in intense online multiplayer modes

New 2008 season adds both night racing in Qatar and the Indianapolis circuit

As long as you have an Xbox 360, or Playstation 2/3, or even a capable PC, you can immerse yourself in this riding simulator and flip out on a rain soaked track safely and soundly. Motorcycle.com will have a review up for it soon, so keep an eye out on their video game section.

Check out 4 more gift ideas after the “jump”

Motorcycle Movie Bundle: Torque, Easy Rider, The Wild One

Recommended Ages: PG-13 for at least one of the movies.
Who Has It: Amazon has everything
How Much: Probably 40-50 bucks for all 3 movies (if even that)

This is a bit of a trick. You’ve got Torque, a 2004 movie from the guy who brought us “The Fast and the Furious” and “XXX”, and then you have 2 movies that came out before the 70’s. This is your chance to provide some movie culture to a teenager who thought that the Transformer movie was actually good (it was not, folks).

Torque is fast, it’s loud, it’s got Ice Cube in it. You can then educate this teen about N.W.A (or not). It’s a movie you can throw in and not have to think about complex plot lines or satire or anything. Kick off your shoes and take in some mindless action.

After they watch Torque, the fast action popcorn flick, take them back to 1969 and the movie Easy Rider. Hopefully they’ll catch the intended glimpse of society back then and all the hippies roaming about. They’ll also get their fill of hard-tail choppers, drugs, and hijinx of the main characters as they make their road trip across America. OK, so maybe the drug use in the movie isn’t great for teens to see…

Introduce The Wild One right after and maybe they’ll forget about that drug use.

Ah, the 1950’s. Marlon Brando stars as the badass on a Triumph Motorcycle who shows the world that yes, be afraid of biker gangs out there. Marlon beat James Dean to the real “Rebel Without a Cause” title (because Dean’s movie came out two years after The Wild One).

Style: Motorcycle Jacket

Recommended Ages: Teens with style
Who Has It: I have no idea, ask a teenager where they buy their ridiculous clothing
How Much: Varying

Apparently wearing a motorcycle jacket while not riding a motorcycle jacket is cool. Look at Pharrel in the pic above. He’s looking pretty cool.

Teens are all about blowing their allowances on dumb stuff like fashion (pfff, fashion!) and if it’s hot, they’ll buy it. It also seems to be about causing the biggest ripple in the water with their outfits that make them cool.

Ah well, this is a teenagers time to shine. When they are in their late 20’s and look back at what they wore, they’ll think “oh God, what was I thinking?”. Too me, today’s fashion trends seem like a rehash of the 80’s, and that is scary.

MOMO Helmets

Recommended Ages: Anyone
Who Has It: Found them online at Atlantic Moto
How Much: Looks to be around $400

Teens are out there and they want to show they are out there. In a world full of teens, they need to stick out. If your teen is already riding a motorcycle then why not get them a helmet that stands out?

MOMO helmets are insane. Insanely different and insanely cool. I’d want one. Maybe I’ll get one from Santa. MOMO is an Italian design company who have a website I don’t understand. (but I found their english site)

Here’s a few more of their helmets:

I think I’ll put that last one on my list to Santa… Or MOMO… *cough*

Sure, what the hell! How bout an actual motorcycle? Tis the season!

Recommended Ages: Younger Teens
Who Has It: A lot of the big manufacturers have youth versions
How Much: Between $1,000 – $4,000 for a new one

They gotta start some time, right? They aren’t quite big enough for a full big nor do they even have a license for one but they want to start. There’s youth bikes out there from Kawasaki, Suzuki, Yamaha, and Honda
.

I don’t know if I can picture a 19 year old on one but I could see a 13 year old riding around a dirt track with one of these things. This is probably the best way to get your kid(s) headed toward that motorcycling path and will probably be a great educational tool for safety and machinery. It’s a bit costly, but hey, it’s the holidays!
