Electric Superbike Unveiled at SEMA

130mph ‘laptop on wheels’

Though it’s generally recognized as a car tuner’s paradise, this year’s SEMA (Specialty Equipment Market Association) show in Las Vegas is not without two-wheel appeal.

The world’s first production electric superbike, the Mavizen TTX02, was unveiled on Tuesday. The bike has been nicknamed a ‘laptop on wheels’ and is being produced by TTXGP (Time Trial Xtreme Grand Prix) founder Azhar Hussain.

ttx02-1104“We are living in a click culture and connectivity is the key, across the board,” says Hussain. “Our approach was to find how we could make a laptop go racing. We think electric vehicles have more in common with consumer electronics than traditional automotive.”

What should make IT people everywhere wet their pants, the TTX02 is the first factory production vehicle to be delivered with a dedicated IP access and connectivity to the network. Each bike can be connected from any browser through an on-board web server and WiFi.

brammo-1280-07Its no accident that two riders representing Brammo started their PR road trip earlier this week from Ann Arbor, MI to Washington, DC.  It also the happens to be about the same route CEO’s took from the big three, but instead of asking for a handout they are only looking to promote electric transportation as a solution to the transportation “crisis”.

Intorducing The eniCycle… [video]

What to you get when you cross a unicycle with a Segway?

Aleksander Polutnik, an inventor from Slovenia has created the eniCycle, which is an electric unicycle that operates with an electronic gyroscope to help balance and stabilize this one-wheeled wonder.  Just like a Segway or the Uno, leaning forward or backward will put the eniCycle in motion and the shifting foot pegs will steer it depending on which direction you want to go.

The top speed is 10 mph and will work for three hours on a full charge, Polutnik, claims that the average user will learn how to ride it in less than 30 minutes, unlike the most frustrating traditional unicycle…

Vectrix Close to Bankruptcy

Another one bites the dust

Due to lack of investment interest, Vectrix looks like it will officially file for bankruptcy within the next 30 days and already have laid off all but essential staff.  The electric scooter manufacture based in Rhode Island, produced its first model the VX-1 back in 2007, it had a great range on a full charge but couldn’t shake the main criticism, which was the hefty price tag.

After getting a first hand look at the Vectrix superbike concept at the Dealer Expo last year, I was excited to get our hands on one for a review, check out some shots of it after the jump.
