PANACA, Nevada – FMF KTM Factory Racing Team’s Taylor Robert extended his win streak to three at Round 7 of the AMA National Hare & Hound Championship held in Panaca, Nevada.

Robert’s teammate, Kacy Martinez, recovered from a second loop tumble to secure the second spot on the podium in the Women’s A class, narrowly missing the win. Martinez maintains her championship points lead in the class.

The Panaca, Nevada course was set up as a two-loop race with a fast and smooth 40-mile first loop followed by a more technical and tight 35-mile second loop. Both loops were raced in 90-degree heat and dry conditions with rain hitting the area after the event.

The bomb run was shorter than typical and racers were split into five rows with FMF KTM Factory Racing Team’s Robert lining up in the first row with other top contenders. He grabbed a second-place start up the hill and onto the main course, found his way into the lead and held a 15-second gap at the end of the first loop into the pits.

The gap between first and second stayed the same with a similar split after the more-technical second loop concluded at the checkered flag. This after a slower pace on the second half of the race thanks to tighter trail and even a trip through a tight treed section.

Robert: “Axel (Pearson) was keeping me honest today and he rode really well on the first loop. I was able to catch up to him in some of the rockier and less dusty sections and I eventually got around him. After that, I kept pushing and he was always right there. It was a really good race. I honestly thought I would have been able to pull away quicker and he just kept me honest all the way through and we ended up finishing pretty close to each other in the end. I’m happy to get another win and enjoyed racing a good battle today.”

Robert now sits 3rd in the overall championship standings, two points behind second, with two rounds remaining in the 2017 season. Robert will head to represent Team USA at the International Six Days Enduro (ISDE) in France August 28th – September 2nd.

Kacy Martinez got her start to the day from the third row on the short bomb run. After a clean start she came out of the first section in second and came into the pits at the end of the first loop in the same nearly two minutes behind the leader. On the second loop, Martinez made ground even after a minor tumble. She would come across the finish seconds behind the leader.

Martinez: “I got off to a great start and came around the first corner second on my row. It was really important to get a good start today since the rain held off and we had dusty conditions. I kept it on two wheels the whole first loop and, despite taking one tumble on the second loop, managed to finish in second.”

Martinez continued her season-long podium streak and maintains an 18-point lead in the championship points with two rounds remaining. She, too, will be traveling to France to compete among the United States’ best off-road racing women as they compete at the ISDE.
