While filming for the Top Gear trio’s newest series, Amazon Original’s The Grand Tour, host and motorsport enthusiast Richard Hammond was knocked unconscious after an incident that ejected him from the saddle of his motorcycle deep in the African nation of Mozambique.
The crash left the 47-year-old lying unconscious in the road, according to a story in UK’s The Sun reporting that a source from show said: “Richard was travelling quite fast when he came off. It caused instant horror on set… There was a lot of concern… If his injuries had been serious it wouldn’t have been easy to get medical attention… It’s very remote there and facilities are basic.”
Thankfully, Hammond seems to have suffered no major injuries and is reported to be fine. Another great lesson in ATGATT.
“It’s true, I did fall off a motorbike whilst filming recently for The Grand Tour in Mozambique,” Hammond wrote on DriveTribe, a social-media site dedicated to the TV show. “I banged my head, yes, along with pretty much everything else apart from my left thumb, which remains un-bruised,” he quipped.
“Can’t tell you more yet about the how and why of it; that’s all for later in the year on the show. As for injuries; well put it this way, I don’t think I can get a book out of it.”
