Veteran TT Racer Shoesmith Killed in Practice Crash

Veteran Isle of Man TT competitor Paul Shoesmith was killed in a crash on the Sulby Straight during an evening solo practice session following the first day of racing. The session was immediately called off following the incident. He was 50.

A resident of Poynton, England, Shoesmith first raced in the TT in 2005. His personal best result was a seventh-place finish in the 2009 Lightweight 250 TT. Earlier in the day, Shoesmith competed in the Superbike TT, finishing 29th overall on a BMW S1000RR with an average speed of 120.856 mph.

Shoesmith also owned his own team, the Ice Valley Four Anjels Race Team.
